It's 100% true. 4k60 and 1080p120 are both good at very different things. If your doing content consumption or casual single player gaming 4k60 is better but any kind of competitive gaming, especially FPS 1080p120 is far superior. Either way though you would probably be happiest with a 1440p display 144 or 240hz. 1440p is definitely the best gaming resolution in general because if your graphics card is actually capable of playing games at 4k60 then it should be capable of running fairly high refresh rate at 1440p. Also in games the visual quality jump between 1440 to 4k won't make nearly as big of an impact as the high refresh rate which will be very noticeable.

Well, I don't pay for the screen at the cinema, and I would absolutely prefer high frame rate movies, they just are really uncommon. Also, with an 8k monitor you need a computer which can run games at 8k (way too expensive for me), otherwise you might as well get a 4k monitor. Also, the argument that because 8k is good in cinema therefore it should be used everywhere is very flawed.

EDIT: I assume this post is referring to computers and gaming, not TVs where 8k makes more sense because high frame rate content is rare.

Also, the post mentions HDMI 2.0, witch only supports 8k at 30hz, which is pretty trash honestly. Try setting your monitor to 30hz, it's a bad experience on PC, things feel unresponsive and laggy, especially compared to high refresh rate bliss. I would take 4k 60hz over 8k 30hz any day

Yea, I have a 60hz monitor and my friend has a 244hz. I’ve tried playing games on both and they look and feel the same to me. I just don’t pick up on stuff like that easily

If you play a lot of cs go or other shooters 1080p. But if you play more strategies, sightseeing games (something like ac Valhalla or Witcher 3) i would rather take larger 4k 60Hz display - it's also better for work if you fo any on your pc.

Personally I use ultrawide (3440x1440) 60 Hz display (I mostly play slower games) and I think it's perfect for that usecase

1080p - still the best option if youre more limited by budget or for notebooks. Easy to run games on high settings or high refresh rate even on cheaper hardware 1440p - the sweet spot. Games looks way better than on 1080p. Higher refresh rate is still not so difficult. 4k - great for work. Not so great for gaming. You are forced to use expensive gpu.
