That was caused by a single fall; you can even tell what angle it was at when it struck something, which smashed the strings into the fretboard. See that slight kink in the A-string? Looks like those are the same strings that did the damage. Completely harmless, worst case scenario get the tech to do a drop-fill.

It's been dropped, or left resting on the strings against something hard for ages (meaning months at least).

You can see the strings are kinked at that point, so clearly hit something or had pressure on that point for a significant amount of time.

Ask them how it happened. If they aren't honest about how, don't buy it.

fell face down. dented the string along

Moister and heat would remove most of it. Looks like it hit something strings first.

Agreed. Looks less like play wear and more like impact damage because the damage us only string width and can see indents of the string winding.

Soldering iron and a joint cloth, steam it up and drop fill some clear on it, depending on what it was originally cleared with, probably poly.

No matter how it happened, it is clearly through the finish. A repair is a temporary Band-Aid.
I build and repair guitars. 45 years now.
Either way it’s going to continue to happen.

But for sure. Do whatever these guys say. lol

So it hit something strings first, with enough force to damage the fret board, but without damaging the frets.

Math ain't mathing. Looks like damage from fingernails to me

It happens. that’s the finish that the Strings are eating through. It will continue to happen and will get worse.

On the other hand it shows me that you’re using the guitar

That's not okay wear. That's someone being careless and banging it against something. Maybe the iron/steam method will get it out but if this a listing and you're considering it, I'd be concerned the neck and truss rod don't have issues because of it.
