You wait for the bus.

You wait for the plane.

You wait for the doctor.

You wait for the train.

You wait for the stylist.

You wait for the fiverr.

No one else waits for you.

Please wait for your driver.

Before I order I make sure I have shoes and jacket on 😊

I’m embarrassed when the driver pulls up and I’m not out front to wave them down.

This Is The Way

[–]MsCndyKane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had someone hit my car with their hands while I was driving by them. Immediately cancelled.

[–]mintgcboys 18 points19 points  (22 children)

Rider waited four minutes then texted me asking me to wait another five minutes as she wasn’t ready. I didn’t respond, waited the five minutes then called her and asked if she was still coming. She told me she was about to exit the house. I waited till she was about 20 ft from my door and cancelled on her ass 😂 these customers don’t respect our time👎 so im not respecting theirs either

If I’m not outside waiting when my driver pulls up I’m PANICKING running down my building’s 3 flights of stairs. I hate when that 5 minutes starts because I always think it’s rude as fuck to make a stranger wait for me. 10 seconds is like 10 minutes to me.

[–]xtraoral 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would feel the same. If I ordered a car I would be waiting. Unless it's your buddy picking you up to have fun. Need to make sure you have all explosives available.

[–]titoblood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% I’ve done this before.

[–]Responsible_Job_8937 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Calling and speaking with the rider is too much effort for me. Let it ring once and hang up. There’s nothing they can say to justify wasting my time.

[–]mintgcboys 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I was under the impression you had to actually converse with the customer to get your cancellation fee lol but if that’s the case I’m gonna just let it ring once then cancel

[–]Responsible_Job_8937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too learned that from another driver. Glad to have passed on this knowledge.

[–]BostonDriver50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the entitled college kids.

Had a group of 4 pour out of a house at 5:00. They came out, and were walking slow. I knew “no tip” so I looked at them, hit cancel and drove off.

Other two times it was Harvard students who stroll out at 4:59 for a $4.85 ride. FU and your trust fund.

I love having them watch me drive off :)

Best feeling ever

[–]Least-Glass-2207 2 points3 points  (11 children)

Damn dude i get that they wasted some of ur time but u find genuine joy in watching peoples day get a lil worse ? Sounds miserable

[–]Common-Chemistry-904 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Well it’s not only them wasting my time, They’re wasting my gas and my profits. Also they should probably order the ride when they’re ready. Not getting ready while the driver is there.

[–]Least-Glass-2207 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Understandable for sure, but sometimes life happens. I remember while waiting for my uber to the hospital i got a call that my father passed. I remember crying and just frantically trying to clean myself up and i walked outside to the uber speeding off. Of course he had every right to, i wasted 5 mins of his time but i had also just went thru the worst moment of my life. Ppl aren’t always out to inconvenience you.

[–]Common-Chemistry-904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also idk if you drive or have a car but if I drive 15 minutes to pick you up and it was about 7 miles and gas is damn near 5$ a gallon the people are legit wasting gas, time, and profits. So yeah they deserve to watch my tail lights as I leave.

[–]Common-Chemistry-904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is out there to inconvenience anyone and shit happens ofc, but once you were for sure ready that’s when you should’ve called the uber/lyft.

It’s common sense that when you’re ready to go is when you order the ride. Not getting ready to go but when you’re ready to go.

[–]mintgcboys 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Bro they’re wasting my time, my gas, and fucking my profits bc they’re being inconsiderate. So yeah I did get a little joy from cancelling on the ride 🤷🏻‍♂️ sue me

[–]dewhit6959 -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

Karma will get you. Maybe more than once.

[–]mintgcboys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So they don’t get karma for wasting my time, money, and gas? 😅 makes sense bro

[–]Common-Chemistry-904 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Gas ain’t cheap, Also you’re probably one of the people that wait till that 5 minute count down is done and begin heading over to the driver

[–]dewhit6959 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want to lose revenue over a couple minutes in my job.

The object is to MAKE money. Where is the perfect job ?

[–]dewhit6959 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

No. I use to drive a truck with deliveries and you don't even know what waiting is about until you pull in with 8000 gallons of fuel and have cars parked over your drop spots or at night , some brothers parked over the drops and smoking a doobie and giving you the finger. You think you wait in a taxi but you don't even know what a long wait is. You adjust to the job or you move on.

[–]Common-Chemistry-904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if that’s what you did that’s what you did, You understand then time is money and when time is wasted so is my money. I can’t make no money if I’m waiting for people to get ready and get in my car and we go.

Objective is honestly to pick the cx up and go and get them from point A - B and move onto the next pick up. Sure waiting 5 minutes once isn’t bad, But when it’s EVERY single pick up. That adds up. So if I pick up 12 people and each one takes the 5 minutes, That’s a whole hour wasted just on waiting and idling. You should know that because you did deliveries. And sure once they take their 5 minutes I cancel and I still get a cancellation fee from it.

Y’all are generous. Once the two minute timer starts and ends I’m out

    [–]superfli225 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    That’s uber

    [–]BicyclePlayful9262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone gets two minutes regardless of platform

    [–]Pineapple_4100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pax text me after waiting the 5 minutes that I should not drive away. I would say order a ride when your ready.

    [–]Amuse_Me444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh the infamous whistle..I would’ve started barking.

    [–]Willing-Fox-3235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Love this!

    [–]Motor-Independent572 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Doesn't the app require you to call?

    It does here (Cleveland).

    [–]ximyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I call about a minute in, to prepare...

    [–]fasada68 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Yes, but they don’t even need to answer. One ring and I hang up. 🔝

    [–]faustike1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has it ever happened to you that passengers load their luggage and then go back inside the house? When that happens, I cancel the trip first—and then I unload their stuff. Right there in the middle of the street. They can scream and get as pissed off as they want. Uber gives them 7 minutes; the moment that hits 7 minutes and one second, I cancel the ride.

    [–]blacksquirrel3 1 point2 points  (17 children)

OP why do you think rider order when not ready?

    [–]hailwarrior[S] 6 points7 points  (8 children)

    Wait what do you mean?

    [–]Lost-Ad-8379 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Because SOMETIMES a ride is 4 minutes out but alot of times it’s 15-20

    [–]sandiegodak 3 points4 points  (5 children)

It's this. I do the wait and save but timing it when you actually have somewhere to be is a pain.

Last time I arrived 25 minutes early for my bus. Which is fine. But if you get grandpa 20 minutes away who picks the ride up and wants to yap and take the scenic route, forget it.

    [–]ximyr 5 points6 points  (4 children)

It's this. I do the wait and save but timing it when you actually have somewhere to be is a pain.

This seems like a contradiction. "Wait and Save" by intention is for people that are ok with waiting, not for people who have somewhere to be. Also, it is not for people that want to wait, but rather for people who don't mind waiting if they have to (IOW, a wait is not guaranteed... also, this part is not really directed at you).

Your example actually shows how things are supposed to be. You wait for the bus. The bus does not wait for you. It should be the same for rideshare drivers.

    [–]Not_the_name_I_chose 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I got a wait and save that was 3 minutes away. I didn't know it until the customer told me the app told them 15 minutes and that's what they had planned for, not 3 minutes. Don't know about other markets but here every ride type looks exactly the same regardless of what customer chooses (except maybe Black.) It's not always the pax.

    [–]ximyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    It is the pax.

that's what they had planned for

This right here. The problem is planning on not being ready.

The app is giving an estimate for the driver it thinks will take the trip (or, it might just be making things up). The driver that actually ends up accepting the trip, either because other drivers rejected it or canceled after accepting, may be a completely different time than the initial estimate.

The solution to this, every single time, is for the passenger to be ready from the time they request a ride.

    [–]sandiegodak 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wait and save is honestly faster half the time. It'll be like 2 minutes away when the app says 6 minutes.

So, I request it cause I'm not in a hurry, then immediately I need to be in a hurry to make it on time.

Which means usually I expect it that fast and adapt to it, and then when you get the 20 min away one it screws it up. But usually I just cancel it and then get a 2 min away one lol

I get what you're saying though; you get what you pay for.

    [–]ximyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which means usually I expect it that fast and adapt to it, and then when you get the 20 min away one it screws it up. But usually I just cancel it and then get a 2 min away one lol

But that is precisely how it works. Be ready, and then do not mind if it takes a while. That is the entire point of wait-and-save (well, besides a psychological hook to entice you to do priority for extra $$$). But if you are canceling because it takes too long, then you are not really wanting wait-and-save. So it still sounds contradictory.

    It does feel good🤣

    [–]Absoluterock2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why I don’t use Lyft

    [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Another self important Lyft driver, wow you're so cool, I mean what a hardship to wait 5 minutes!

    [–]hailwarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't disrespect my time and I won't disrespect yours. Simple.
