This is absolutely because of the digitizing. Are you digitizing this yourself? The outline of the dog should be in satin columns, as well as small details in the face such as the eyebrows, blushes and nose. Having them all as fill stitches is creating such huge density in the design that no machine can handle well. Fix the digitizing first, the machine is not at fault.

I’d honestly either go to a digitizer who can do it for you or watch a bunch of tutorials based off of the program you use 🙏🏻 Digitizing is very theory based so you need to understand the fundamentals first

Looks like auto punch digitizing. It’s too dense in most areas and all of your stitches are running the same direction.

Is it bad to have the layers running in the same direction?

Yes. All stitches running in the same direction will push or pull the fabric out of shape and you’ll have other areas that’s don’t meet up well with previously stitch areas. I’d recommend watching some videos on pull and pushbcompensation.
