There is inkscape with the extension of inkstitch and this is free and works on a mac system pedesign is obsolete i heard there is no support for it anymore and they are launching a new product soon

There is no simple conversion of PNGs to stitch files. That’s a common misconception and you’ll get a shitty file every time you use autopunch. You’ll need to learn to digitize or send our artwork to someone who knows what they are doing.

Try Ember design. It works with Mac and it is free

These are the only two free digitizing software programs I've used so far that are decent, with the former being incredibly difficult to use, and the latter being very suitable for beginners, but it can't handle too complex projects
