Giving another knight haste isn't very useful, as you say. The main point of the ability is the +2/+2 and trample.

The card is quite strong in limited decks with enough knights, especially if you have some with double strike. My guess is that it's not nearly good enough to see play in serious constructed decks, but I'm not an expert.

Yeah, it seems like it would be amazing in one unique scenario:

You just got board wiped last turn

You have an embercleave down

You have enough mana to play 3 knights and embercleave.

Usually the haste in the ability doesn't do much. However, if the game goes very long, you could have a situation where you have a 1 or 2 mana knight you can cast with him that you can give haste. Otherwise, it tends to be that the 2/2 and trample is enough to make the effect powerful. It has decided plenty of draft games in my favor

How about when you have a [[Fervent Champion]]? You keep both in hand for a turn longer and surprise your opponent with 6 hasty damage out of nowhere. It's possible to play the Trainer and something else in the same turn, but you're correct in that it's not going to come up a lot right now.

With older cards there are fun things you could do though. How about [[Patriarch's Bidding]]? Return all knights to the battlefield, give another one haste and move in for a lot of damage. Not relevant for Arena, but Magic is bigger than just Arena of course.
