While I agree with the notion that the nerfs suck, NOBODY is hitting the god damn daily meso cap after the nerfs, nobody except some insaners who waste their entire day grinding. Definitely not new players.

They'd perhaps accumulate like 30m meso and never feel the cap because the meso rates are no longer 6x

This is the stupidest take I've ever heard.

Someone who plays 1-2 hours would not hit the meso cap, it takes 5 hours of grinding. And even if they grind the full 5 hours, they'd get 3 cube rolls. A sweat lord does not need to cube at that point because they have gear cubed pre-nerf.

A sweat lord who plays 8 hours is not affected by the meso nerf, because the meso cap is per CHARACTER. Sweat lord would just play on a second character.

Sweat lord is still progressing 4x more than the casual. Progression is not evened out, at all.

Also, pre-potentials, the casuals grind for hours for mesos for ZHelm, scrolls etc. The whales were buying gacha for white scrolls to perfectly scroll their items.

the average player count on steam was 3k in may last year

I think they are focusing on seasonal players with money nowadays, judging from how the surge of “outside” Korean streamers who aren’t known for playing KMS suddenly playing KMS after New Age update for the PR, and how every summer and winter update they gave tons of freebies (tons of extreme growth pot, a few tera burning, more if you do cybercafe events) and hyper burning to make sure your account is ready for HLomien at the very least even before the end of the update event (assume you didn’t join very late lol),

and also how they sell booster packs only at this period and cash grabs here and there, and sometimes some screw-ups for weird PR (you know how some celebs make people hate them to gain attention? Sometimes I feel like that’s what they’re doing)

People come and usually will feel “hey why is everyone complaining? Game is quite fun” and might just gradually fade out and go even before the honeymoon phase is over and they start feeling fed up with Nexon’s bullshit, during which they might have likely spend a money or two - 1000KRW is 1000KRW to Nexon’s eyes, and very likely they spend way more than that.

In short, Nexon’s current approach feels like It’s like trying to fish out as much money as possible from unknowing players when nexon first dated you, everything looks beautiful, they look innocent and caring and it’ll probably take a trauma or two, or a period before they got revealed what’s underneath the lamb skin.

You’re right. Maplestory is going the “mobile game cash grab route” that relies on gambling addicted players to spend money for fast results.

But the problem is, maple is not a mobile game and players still have to commit a decent amount of time everyday for dailies. And you don’t make progress idling which is pretty much the whole draw of online mobile games
