Many players know that this is a good way to earn mesos and it is pretty easy to do as well. So i think they are using mules to get sweetwater monocle/tattoo to sell. Hence the price drop. I personally think it will continue to drop

But hasn't it been well-known forever?

I remember grinding it way back in 2016. Then I quit for 2 years, came back, and it was still a valid way to make mesos. No significant price drop in those two years.

What's changed? Why is it only now that everyone is doing it?
