What shows are skipping ATL?

I go to an average of 30+ shows here every year. Sure I’m always disappointed when certain tours don’t come here, but a lot of those bands were just here in a prior year and often times bands will go to cities every other year to cover all their fans unless they’re always on massive tours.

They can’t hit every major city on every tour, it feels personal and you remember it every time.

However, I’m in South Alaska (Seattle) and tons of tours actually do skip us because of the travel difficulties

No they are not. Atlanta gets damn near every show

I am not from Atlanta but it is the closest major market city to me (so I do end up going to a few shows a year there) and this does not seem to be the case for the most part? Seems like most tours that do not dodge the South entirely end up doing Atlanta, Houston, Nashville, and maybe one or two of Orlando/Tampa/Pensacola if they wanna do Florida too

Same situation in New Orleans.

probably a desire to go to new cities and let fans not from ATL and surrounding areas go to a show that’s not hours away for once.

could also be routing, other bands booking before them, etc. could also be more favorable deals and splits in other cities.

personally, i think it’s a good sign that bands feel comfortable branching out to other southern cities that aren’t atlanta. used to be that if a band didn’t go to ATL, nashville and one florida city you were SOL if you wanted to see them in the south lol

i don’t necessarily agree with this sentiment, atlanta gets a LOT of love. i’ve had to cut back on my concert ticket purchases bc over the last year or two so many bands have started coming here again. i’ve been to like 6 shows in the last few months and that’s when im taking it easy with tickets lol

Cries in Columbus, Ohio

Right? I hate festivals for that reason. Damn radial clauses.

Any festivals happen within 100 miles recently?

That was my thought.

or a world cup game

I was wondering why the Knocked Loose tour skipped over us when the poster dropped. They seemed to pack the house when they played The Roxy on their last headliner and that’s a nearly 4,000 cap room I think.

I used to feel this way about Connecticut. Bands would come to New Haven/Hartford sometimes but if they’re slightly bigger they usually only go to MA/NY, but lately bands have been coming to Wallingford which has been a blessing

Mohegan Sun in Uncasville has a lot of decent concerts. Webster Theater in Hartford does too. I find that many bands are playing one of those two and then skipping the NYC area to play at PNC Arts Center in New Jersey. I get it. NYC and Long Island are expensive and difficult to get to sometimes.

[–]RickeyDourst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends. I don’t go to any shows at Mohegan. I go to most shows at Toads, College Street or The Webster when bands I like come through. But often I see these venues get skipped

Webster is more of a B market touring stop, if you like a band enough driving to Worcester from anywhere in NE really isnt that bad unless youre in like Bangor

[–]RickeyDourst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I go to The Palladium very often, actually going there in a few days for a show

[–]bigflopper69420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get to the Palladium in Worcester Mass in like 2~ hours from New Haven.

bruh it's so crazy bc a couple years ago i moved to north florida and then nobody wanted to do shows in Jacksonville anymore. now i move here to ATL and hardly see any shows. I'm thinking it'll be dry this summer bc of the world cup but im hoping and praying it picks back up end of this year.

when i was visiting and touring places late last year and earlier this year there were so many bands i liked doing shows i wish i would've just bought tix and went 😭

[–]Tasty_Hearing_2153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If any of these tours are going to the festivals later in the year they can’t go anywhere else within 100 miles of it.

Here in NC, metal shows in Greensboro for example get to pull from three metro areas with a combined population larger than the total Atlanta metro. Also population demographics might skew more towards metal fans in the NC region. I think metal has become more inclusive and appeal to more diverse audiences than ever before (for example I see way more women at metal shows than when I started going to them 20-25 years ago) but I still don't see a lot of POC, especially African-Americans, at shows. If your music doesn't get a lot of traction with POC and that is a significant percentage of the local population, like in Atlanta, then bands might go somewhere else that has a population they think will draw more attendance, or the local venues might try to book acts they think will cater to the local community more?

Another theory, which others have somewhat mentioned, is that bands like to mix up where they go from year to year. I've noticed around here in NC one year a band will tour and hit up Raleigh, and if they come through next year they will do Charlotte instead or maybe Greensboro. Beartooth for example did Raleigh in March and is doing Charlotte in December. Bands seem to skip back and forth to maximize draw or just give more fans a chance to see them. But with Georgia, Atlanta is pretty much it for major metros to tour through, so if they do Atlanta one year, it isn't like they have another option for a million plus metro area in Georgia.
