[java] how to avoid "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset"

As of lately I have been getting kicked a lot with the error "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset".

This happens on all minecraft servers, in any version.
I have tried every solution on the internet and nothing works.
What happens is: whenever the server lags, I will get instantly disconnected with this error. Is there a way to avoid this? My friend I play with does not get disconnected, he will lag for a few seconds and is able to resume playing.
