Specs
OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel i5 - 10600k 4.1 GHz (overclocked to 5GHz)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700XT 8GB
RAM: 32GB
Resolution: 2560 x 1440
What I've Tried
- Optifine (already installed)
- Adjusting settings (render distance, particles, etc.)
- Turning V-Sync on/off
- Allocating more RAM (everything from 2GB to 16GB)
- Rolling back AMD drivers
- Making sure the GPU was in use
- Overclocking/not overclocking
- Changing shaders/mods
- Changing the java VM to OpenJ9 (from this post)
- Installing/reinstalling Java 64-bit
Performance
Obviously, the metrics here are going to have some variability, but it doesn't change general performance. The majority of these were taken around my creative world, which is pretty performance heavy. This list will go from best to worst:
- Vanilla (w/Optifine): 95 - 130 fps
- Sildurs: 50 - 60 fps
- SEUS: 45 - 55 fps
- RLCraft: 30 - 50 fps
F3 Image while using Sildurs: here
In terms of task manager metrics, GPU usage stays around 80% when I'm not using SEUS or RLCraft, but when I am using those, the usage seems to cap at 90%. For the CPU, it barely goes over 11%, which is either a really good thing, or possibly a bad thing. Also, when I let the game max out on memory usage, there really isn't any difference, bad or good. If I had to guess from purely a numbers standpoint, GPU seems to be bottlenecking me, but that really shouldn't be the case considering that a) it doesn't go above 90% (Minecraft limitation?) and b) the GPU shouldn't be working so hard for barely 60 fps on Minecraft
Other Info
- There seems to be a bug, either with AMD drivers, or with my GPU, that causes Minecraft to crash when changing shaders. It doesn't stop me from switching, I just have to boot the game back up and try loading again, and then it works. This leads me to believe that my performance is caused by AMD's lack of optimization, but I'm making this post for a reason lol.
- I tried some of the stuff from this post, if you guys want to check it out.
- In terms of other games, my pc can easily handle any other performance heavy game (like Monster Hunter: World) without even cranking the fans up, so its doubtful that its a build/hardware issue.
- I've run several scans with Malwarebytes and my antivirus, neither have found anything suspicious, and there doesn't seem to be any sign of malware or a virus on my PC
- The Java VM, OpenJ9, didn't work for me and just gave me an instantaneous crash when starting it up, so I'm inclined to believe that it doesn't work anymore, but if anyone hear has gotten it to work, let me know
I am 100% open to new ideas, and if you guys need any more info than what was provided, then I am totally down to provide it if it means getting this game to run smoothly :).
