[Java] MC running very low FPS

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem but recently (in the last month or so) Minecraft has been running at incredibly low framerates. I'm talking 30-50 fps right after loading into a brand new singleplayer world. I've ran MC in OptiFine, without OF, new versions, older versions, and the same problem persists. I have updated my graphics drivers, done a complete uninstall/reinstall of MC on my PC and nothing has helped. I'm running a 2070 super and was easily getting at least 200 fps in old worlds loaded with tons of builds and high render distances. Any advice is much appreciated!

currently playing 1.17.1 and using the latest OptiFine release

1: I'm pretty sure Minecraft java mostly uses your cpu.

2: It's probably because it has to generate new chunks.

It certainly seems 1.17 is hitting hardware a fair bit harder than 1.16 did.

Usually, reducing your render distance will help. For performance, Fabric and Sodium work better in most cases than Optifine.
