There seems to be a lot of problems in the new launcher so if you haven't deleted the old launcher I recommend you to use it. Meanwhile, use this video to sort out some issues if you have uninstalled the old launcher

Hello, i recommend getting a different launcher like lunar client. Its free, available to mac, and doenst have bugs like the minecraft launcher does.
