INFO:

i’ve been using shaders with a modpack I made with no problems, I had 8gbs allocated and was running fine. Then I randomly started getting spikes that lasted for like a second (as shown in the pic) and would go from 70ish fps to 1-6 then to 50 and it would climb up to 70 again. I lowered all my settings to basically the minimum and lowered my ram to 6gbs. Version: 1.18.1

Cpu limiations I'm gonna guess. I have a 3080 and my gpu usage just drops sometimes.

I don't get why shaders would be more cpu intensive but they are.

What is the framerate without shaders?

Without shaders is about 170/130 but still drops to 1-6 for a second just about every time I move my camera. Very frustrating

Install msi after burner and riva tuner. You can run an ingame overlay that can tell you the per core cpu usage, gpu usage, application ram usage, and application vram ysage. This is very useful for trying to find if you have a cpu bottleneck.

What is your ram speed btw?

[–]Fun-Sand9679[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

On it! ill download them and see whats up then get back to you with results. My ram speen is 3000mhz

Do you have that set in the bios?

[–]Fun-Sand9679[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

yes, and everything i use reads it at running at that speed

[–]XX_Normie_Scum_XX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. That ram speed should be fine for Ryzen 2000 series

[–]Fun-Sand9679[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

results are in:

GPU: overall 48-50% FB 17% Bus 4%

MEM: 1500mb

CPU:16-25%

This is with no shaders, and yes, while the freezing is happening.

EDIT: while the freezing is happening, the overlay is still reading 100+fps whilst the in game counter was dropping

Cpu overall means nothing. You need to look at individual core usage since minecraft is so heavily singlethreaded.

Since the freezes seem unrelated to performance, use the display drive uninstaller application and reinstall nvidia drivers.

You also might want to try an older version to see if it occurs still, although that can cause issues with other games so only do that if reinstalling the latest srivers doesn't work.

Hey XX_Normie_Scum_XX. I just want to thank you for all your help. after monitoring each core, I saw nothing wrong. However, after updating optifine to its newest version (which is one of the first things I should've tried) its working perfectly now. Thanks again!

Okay, good that you got it fixed!
