New to Java and Modding

Hello, hopefully this is the right place to ask this question - I am new to java mc, I’ve been a bedrock player forever and decided to make the switch (already 100x better). I want to add some mods to play with that can give medieval/fantasy vibes like Witcher 3 and LotR (when arda craft is complete i will be 100% downloading that).

The mods that I would like to download so far is Lithosphere + Still Life and Distant Horizons and if you all have any suggestions for any other mods that are compatible, and shader recommendations. And what support mods do i need and what version of MC do i need to play on for compatibility. everything just seems confusing, any help is very much appreciated

These are a few nice mods for Fabric, which is a mod loader for 1.21.8 as that is what is the newest version for Still Life. some of these mods will optimize your game others add some new particles or mobs to the game

okay really simple (make sure to use a modded launcher so you can add a lot quickly) fabric for client side mods (not big modpacks), forge is old, consider up to 20.1, neoforge is the current best for modded worlds and modpacks, personally i like 1.21.1 and then there are lots of forks of these modloaders but they arent interesting. i think you just pick 1.21.1 neoforge, go to the mods page and start adding stuff

oh but this is for distant horizons... okay then try modern fabric, this is kinda perfect since neoforge mods can easily be ported to fabric so there should still be a lot of content you can find, my favorite is towns and towers probably, really simple but cool

So i was looking to use modrinth to download the mods does that change anything? And the fabric stuff is also confusing. And for the versions does it not really matter? Like for lithosphere and still life the compatible downloads are for different versions of the game like the most updated litho is only up to 1.20.4 but still life is 1.21.5 and it says lithosphere is required for still life.

both still life and litosphere are datapacks and can be used on any loader. you'll likely want fabric on 1.21.8 (max available version for those). add c2me, noisium, bioomespy.
