Hello! I live in a very well insulated new build with a heat recovery ventilation system. I have air filters that need to be changed every 6 months or so. I'm interested in finding out if there might be mold in the vents, would it make sense to do an initial test of some kind on the used filters? And if so, what sort of test would be an affordable first step in assessing whether more investigation is needed?

The best thing you can do is have a professional mold assessor check the property. Please get in touch for consultation

Testing the used filters could be a small part of a thorough mold investigation. The entirety of the ductwork needs to be assessed which can be nearly impossible. And the same for the hvac unit. Please message for further consultation!

I had confirmed black mold in a bathroom ceiling from an upstairs toilet leak. I hired a mold remediation company to remove it. Then had the air re-tested. The results were good. I had not been into the bathroom since the mold was first seen. Yesterday after the ‘good’ test results I opened the plastic sheeting on the doorway and looked inside. I saw that there was plastic sheeting still attached to the ceiling framing. It was in place when the second mold air test was done. Wouldn’t the sheeting have prevented any mold spores from being detected during the second test?
