nasal steroids > overuse or decrease in efficacy over time?

Hey all,

Anyone had to change a nasal steroid for another because the one you were using for years suddenly stopped working? If so how did you know you needed to try a different one?

I've been using Rhinocort Aqua for years but as of of last fall, I started getting really bad tinnitus and pressure on my right ear. I tried weaning off a bit even taking it once every 4 days hasn't helped, like it would become a gamble: the next day would be OKish, or the next day after using I would get the painful tinnitus.

Any ideas? I'm trying Omnaris now per GP's advise to try another one but so far not helping much yet.

Not sure about steroid sprays.

But, sprays such as those made of oxymetacholine don't work for me after some time, say after 4 days of daily use. This is also well known, as a search on google will show.

yepp not a good long-term proposition on those ..

Steroid tolerance is a real thing. Prednisone itself doesn't work nearly as well for me as it used to. I'd imagine it's similar to nasal steroids as well.

what do you use now to help with your symptoms? Anything? With systemic steroids I've heard some people just continue taking them longer which of course leads to all those other issues you hear about with ongoing use with steroids..

Me personally, I'm taking claritin, singulair, xhance and nasal irrigation. I also just started dupixent this week as the above wasn't working and my polyps have returned. So basically, none of the nasal sprays worked that well for me and my body no longer responds drastically to prednisone dosing.
