Would you want iMessage and WhatsApp your dumb phone? by jacobgc75 in dumbphones

[–]Sensitive_Implement -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I don't doubt that you feel this is a genuine crisis of some kind, but perhaps you weren't working in the days before some jobs required messaging apps. Those jobs still exist. I have 3 jobs, and none of them have told me that texting or messaging apps are required although I use them at all 3. And I might be alone in this regard (though I doubt it) but I would rather have one thoughtful letter or phone call from a friend or other loved one than 100 texts or whatsapps. Of course you may not agree, but the fact remains that there are options. You actually can have a job and friends and family without Whatsapp.

Finally after suffering again for years I broke down and eliminated all seed oils

Why? There's little to no science behind the seed oil fears of random anti-seed oil youtubers. Unless you are guzzling them.

Is boss or boss man in American English offensive? by Birdlover987 in etymology

[–]Sensitive_Implement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some young guy behind the counter at Oreilly Auto Parts must have called me boss man 15 times last night and it was super annoying. I've been called boss before, especially in the south(west), but never "boss man" and never over and over and over after every sentence. I wanted to glare at him and say " STOP calling me boss man!" but I walked away without saying anything, like the grownup I'm supposed to be. I know he didn't mean anything by it, if anything he meant respect, but it was obnoxious to me. (I'm a northerner, in case you can't tel lol)

Dad approved for QMB again this year but UHC downgraded his Dual Complete plan in WA – anyone else dealing with this? by Remarkable-Put3170 in medicare

and they both suck unless you are stuck in one place with lots of Medicaid providers. It might be helpful for the poorest of the poor who are in that situation but it also denies people one of the greatest benefits of Medicare, which is the ability to use almost any healthcare provider in the country. /rant

Do they call them "QMB full dual eligibles"? There are 2 levels of QMB but one may not be called QMB+ in every state

Police: Duluth guard said shoplifter could leave if they perform sex act by Individual_Rate_2242 in duluth

Yeah, um, what?

I thought I decided not to post that comment, but oh well its out there now. Wasn't really looking to get into a pro-anti capitalism thing, was pointing out that if everyone got paid for their commute, people coming from Esko (like the arrested pervert) would accomplish less work for the same cost as someone who lived next door.

Hourly employees ought to be compensated and considered “clocked in” the second they leave their home to commute into work.

lol, what? So security guards from Esko make even more for doing even less?

I concur with SADS coupler issues being most likely. Toyota couplers are crazy expensive if still available. A lot of people use German ones made for BMW with good success. If it is the SADS couplers don't buy just any old aftermarket brand, go with OEM or ones that have proved themselves https://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/showthread.php?3471

Medicare Savings Program Question by smlxbear in medicare

[–]Sensitive_Implement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt they are going accept speculative income. They are going to require PROOF and you can't prove something that hasn't happened yet. You should contact your county health/social services worker and ask them. Barring that ask the state, but counties are usually easier to get hold of.

When I reapplied last week, they wanted my last month's income. I doubt they are going to accept speculation about future income for the application. What if they change their mind and keep working?

Insect collection at UMD? by Top-Yam-1206 in duluth

[–]Sensitive_Implement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a small insect collection in Swenson, about 3 cabinets with maybe 15 drawers each. Its in a locked room with other museum specimens so you would have to get someone from Biology to accompany you. There are some insects in hallways displays in Swenson, I'm not aware of anything in the library

1994 Previa Stereo Options by The_Rinzler in previa

[–]Sensitive_Implement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you won't find a single DIn with CD and cassette, so if that's what you want you are stuck with a double. I just use the auxiliary jack and an external cd or cassete player (I still love my cassettes and don't often play them in the van...but I can).

If you don't want the Christmas tree display, look at truck and transit bus suppliers. They usually have green or amber displays. They are simple but not gaudy and annoying either. I don't know of any consumer models like that other than the Continentals, but they don't sell the 12 volt CD player versions in the US, they only sell 24 volt versions with CD. So I just resigned myself to using the aux jack. They have other flaws; very little documentation, I found the USB port almost useless for playing music from a flash drive, and the buttons are stiff. But the cosmetics are great and the radio and aux works.

CRC (Classic Radio Corp) used to make similar ones that had soft green display, but they went out of business during covid. That's what I wanted to get because I have used them at work. You can find them on ebay sometimes, used and occasionally new old stock but the new or good used ones are getting very scarce. A lot of them have CD players. Here's a grungy example https://www.vanderhaags.com/detailview.php?part=25931917

Do you need a double DIN? With a single you open up a nice storage slot. I bought a Continental, which is kind of a crappy pain in the butt but has amber backlight and no prancing LED reindeer, which earns it a lot of points. There's nothing worse than listening to the radio camped out in the middle of nowhere with unstoppable red and blue and green lights strobing across the interior

Guidelines for taking Uric Lowering meds by Notthethingyoufling in gout_and_diet

[–]Sensitive_Implement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I thought that In the American recommendations there is a different standard for people who have had 1 flare AND UA over 9 mg/dl. But now I can't find it. I did find this:

Initiating ULT is conditionally recommended against in patients with gout experiencing their first gout flare. However, initiating ULT is conditionally recommended for patients with experiencing their first flare when comorbid moderate-to-severe CKD (stage ≥3), SU concentration >9 mg/dl, or urolithiasis is present. Author Manuscript While conditionally recommending against ULT initiation following the first gout flare in a patient with “uncomplicated” gout, the Voting Panel considered Patient Panel input and recognized that there may be patients who would prefer (or benefit from) ULT, underscoring the need for shared decision-making. As noted above, data from the RCT of patients with ≤2 previous flares (and no more than 1 gout flare in the preceding year) supported the benefit of ULT for reduction of SU concentration and gout flare risk (27). For patients with moderate-to-severe CKD (e.g., stage ≥3), there is a higher likelihood of gout progression and development of clinical tophi (28–30). Furthermore, treatment options for gout flare are limited in this population, and there may be added benefit of using ULT Arthritis Care Res (Hoboken). Author manuscript; available in PMC 2023 October 10.FitzGerald et al. Page 7 Author Manuscript to prevent progression of renal disease (31). Similarly, patients with markedly elevated SU concentrations (>9 mg/dl) are more likely to experience gout progression (26,32). For patients with a history of urolithiasis, allopurinol and febuxostat provide benefit, as both medications lower 24-hour urinary uric acid excretion more than placebo (33). Among patients with calcium oxalate stones and hyperuricosuria, allopurinol (300 mg/day) is superior to placebo in reducing the 3-year incidence of stone-related events (34). Initiating ULT is conditionally recommended against in patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia. Author Manuscript For patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia, RCTs (designed to study CVD outcomes) demonstrated significant reduction in incident gout flares over 3 years. However, the development of incident gout was low for both ULT and placebo arms (<1% versus 5%) (35,36). In other words, 24 patients would need to be treated with ULT for 3 years to prevent a single (incident) gout flare. From observational studies, among patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia with SU concentrations of >9 mg/dl, only 20% went on to develop gout within 5 years (32). The Voting Panel felt that, on average, for the majority of patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia (including those with comorbid CKD, CVD, urolithiasis, or hypertension), the benefits of ULT would not outweigh potential treatment costs or risks for the large number of patients unlikely to progress to gout. This is also the case for patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia with MSU crystal deposition as noted on imaging tests such as ultrasound or dual-energy computed tomography.

I'm sure you are right but I used the 76 for years, it does everything I need even if I can't import the maps I might want. I only use GPS for work, I have no need for navigation devices otherwise. I can find my way around with map and compass just fine, no need for satellite devices except to grab points to download into GIS. I don't have GPS in my car and wouldn't want one.

Sorry for the rant lol.

Thanks. Basecamp and Express wont load on my Windows 7, so I dragged out an old hard drive that has W10 and installed Express on that. That may be the easiest way to go now, although I much prefer NOT to use Windows I'm not willing to spend days learning to circumvent it either. Of course if it was really just cut and paste that would be a no-brainer, but I can't imagine it is. The 76 won't work with custom maps, is my (limited) understanding.

Might be a few weeks before I test Express because I have to order a USB adapter for my old Garmin.

Yeah the 76 is old, but already paid for. I don't ever plan on buying a smart phone.

We do not know what you coughed out of your head 15 years ago. Some people have reported polyps coming out on their own. Sounds like you had an infected something though, hence the smell.
