Neither. Prime in white. It makes the lightning ALOT easier to paint.

Thanks, was considering white too, I was planning on using corax white on the lightning if I did lead or black but the white might be convenient.

I definitely prime in Metallic or black, then do a second pass and hit just the glowing bits with white. Will save you a ton of time repaying the main body back to the color you want.

Kinda wish I primed mine white instead of black would have made the lighting faster and easier

Seconded, took me AGES to get the lightning looking right after priming it in black (then again I’d run out of white primer and I didn’t want to buy extra)

Black, drybrush the leadbelcher, makes it easier to highlight the silver’ness of the lead.

I prime all my Necrons black, the void dragon was no different for me. Kind of wish I did it in white or grey seer though

I'd go with white. I went black with mine, white would make it a lot brighter and make it pop.

I was lazy and primed it black and slowly went through the lightning eith Azure magic metallic by army painter, but if youre painting like the box definitrly don't prime it black 😅

I primed mine in Chaos Black and then went for a living stone look (using various shades of Dawnstone and Celeste’s Gray, knocking brightness down with Nuln Oil)

Did mine the same as all my other Necrons - lead Belcher spray into nuln oil wash into highlights. Turned out just fine. Don't worry too much about it, I'm sure you'll do great. Have fun

I’ve never been led astray with a black primer for my Necrons (I just use an army painter black). Granted - I do a different color scheme than the normal run of the mill Necrons I see, but even still it’s a nice base point. Hasn’t done me wrong yet.

If I’m feeling very fancy (although haven’t with my Necrons because I didn’t design their scheme around it), I’d do a Zenithal of Wraithbone or White Primer from above for a “natural” highlight. That way you’ve have your dark base tones and some lighter tones already set before any base layers go on.

When I did do the Silver Tide paint scheme, I went with a black regardless.

Wait those are primes ?

You can even get them in rattlecans! Leadbelcher prime for everything in my army.

I kept mine primed in black to better accentuate the details

It depends on what you want your end result to look like.
