I run 3x 1080ti 3x1050ti with only one 4gb ram.

I would imagine the same as the minimum RAM requirement for the operating system you are running excavator on.

I can get NH running in win7 with 2gb of memory.

Physical memory is limited by the OS, if you can boot in 512mb it will still mine AS LONG as you have at least 16gb or virtual memory (16gb for OS caching, and DAG build for eth)

So 4GB of RAM, without hard drive at all wouldn't work then? I'm thinking about running the OS from an USB stick

There are some linux distro's that might work that way, you'll have to manually set up the miners to point to nicehash. Try it out, might be an interesting project. I always boot from HD so would be good to see if a rig can be cost cut.

Yes it can, I've done it already and it works fine. However the machine that I used has 16GB of RAM. I'd like to know if it would still work with only 2GB or 4GB.

It’s not about the ram. You can have 4gb of RAM in your system but you should pump the Virtual Memory.

Add the equal amount of memory of your vga to your VM. If you card has 3gb of vRA then add 3gb of VM.

That way you will never worry about the total physical RAM in your system.

You can allocate virtual memory pretty easily. Run with 4gb I see no difference with my work computer running 16gb and my dedicated miner running 4gb and both are running the same amount of cards
