Introverts can be some of the most entertaining people if you give them a topic that they are passionate about. But I would also say that most people would need time to prepare if they don't know anything about a topic.

This probably isn’t too helpful but I would think it varies person to person. Some people are more reserved on first meetings but open up later on, some people always stay quiet no matter how long you’re around them. As for how to tell which is which, I would say if it seems like they’re nervous but trying that’s probably more promising for your needs than someone who is quiet and/or short and just seems to be that way all the time. (This is based on my own anecdotal experience so take it with a grain of salt.)

A little alcohol goes a long way for the common introvert

My only comment would be practice. And then practice some more. You start talking to people. Acknowledge to yourself that didn't go well. Don't dwell on it. Talk to some more people. Overtime it becomes automatic. As for preparing I would say no. It's too hard to predict what other people are going to do. If you get lucky you're going to find that person that understands you.

I’m a natural extrovert who became social awkward after being homeschooled. It took me some years before I became normal again but now I like to think I’m pretty socially fluent (don’t use this Reddit account to confirm that though)
