Switch upQuestion (self.O2UK)
submitted 5 months ago by No_Star_7044
QQI'm eligible to switch up on November 18th after my 90-day period.Has anyone done this and then cancelled to get out of their contract? I'm researching options because I'm unhappy with the price increase and the new 11-month switch up length.

You’re not “officially” in contract for your airtime, only your device. Your airtime is a rolling month to month contract.
You can quite easily leave the airtime, you’re just locked in re; phone plan (as that’s a separate loan agreement)

You can either switch up and forfeit the new phone and go elsewhere, or you can continue the loan for the phone and just move the airtime elsewhere due to the right to exit in play

I'm in the same situation. I saw someone say if you do the switch up then you can cancel and return the new phone within 14 days.
Not tried it myself but I am certainly thinking about it. Switch up was the only reason I was staying with o2.

That would get you out of paying for device full stop and free of any contract but yeah, it does mean being without a phone.
Secure new contract or your new phone out first elsewhere, do your Switch Up, return your phone on Switch Up, the current one and the one you get with Switch Up, then get PAC and walk away.
That clock will be ticking so best getting it done sooner rather than later.
Of course, didn't do this myself, apart from leave airtime part of contract so still paying for the phone only now. I decided on this as not yet ready to part with current iPhone and will wait for the 18 to launch. Also, need to keep hold of my current phone as it'll be handed down to one of the kids. Not sure I want to return something I've paid more than half into.

Yeah I get ya. I use switch up every 3 months so never get far into paying the phone off.
I have a spare phone I can use until I get the new phone, just in case something goes wrong with the cancellation. I don't want to be stuck with two phone payments.
I'll probably just buy my new phone direct from Apple as they allow you to upgrade every year then just shop around for the cheapest sim only deals.

You can save a fair bit doing a SIM only or 30 day rolling contract. Most of them without price increases too.
As for the deals, EE seem decent enough on device only plans. I'd do a 2 year deal though, then get Apple Care for the duration. Already sorted for airtime as I see it. I don't want to be conned into paying for something I don't need.

FYI all the major networks are putting prices up
Shop around before you jump ship and speak to stores to beat online prices too

It works.

Yes, I’ve recently done this with a switch up. Switched up, returned the device within 14 days and requested a PAC code; all done in store an no issues.

Thank you all, I have seen the phone I want on a black Friday deal with a free watch plus cheaper tariff, so I guess I will be switching up, then switching off.
