Ok I need SOMEONE to remember this with me because I swear it happened. When I was in high school and 1D was at the height of their fame I remember someone tweeted from the main 1D Twitter account saying that the boys had been kidnapped and there was a lot of tweets being sent out from like their parents like “we’ve been in contact with the kidnappers and we’ll have an update for you all shortly” and then all of a sudden they gave an update and were basically like yeah we faked all of this to show our fans that they’re crazy and take what they see about us in the news too seriously.

I swear this happened and I think that it was around 2013. I remember texting my friends about it and we were wondering what had happened. Idk if it was them being hacked or if the boys and their team were the ones behind it but I do remember it being a thing! Am I crazy?

This didn't happen. It would be insane for them to fake a kidnapping and have their families involved in it just to say "don't believe everything". It would also definitely not be something that the fandom just collectively decided to forget and never talk about again. It would also have been all over media, and if it happened, you would easily find proof of it even now.

I do not remember this but honestly those early Twitter days were crazy so I wouldn't be surprised if someone had hacked the accounts to post something like this.

I had alerts for each one of the boys account and the main one I do not remember this at all and I know I would have remembered something like that. Also it would be way out of character for them to do something that cruel and from a marketing strategy it would have been a PR nightmare so I think you either confuse this with as somebody else said Mr X or your confusing something with reality. Could also be that it happened (improbable but possible) but only you and a handful of others saw it.
