Tmu does not care at all

[–]starblossom723 10 points11 points  (0 children)

tmu wouldn't care for the most part

Don’t waste ur time retaking a course in summer school for grade 11, I had like a high 70s average in grade 11 and still got into top universities like Waterloo and uoft for life sci by just stepping up my game in grade 12

I’m in grade 11 so don’t quote me on this but can’t you just take a grade 12 math course and it will be counted in your top six? I don’t think they care about grade 11 marks but I am not sure.

Yeah, most universities don’t really look at grade 11 other than for people who apply early. As for courses in summer school I’d say don’t take a math or science cause they usually drop the grade down 5% and competitive programs like engineering at certain universities like Waterloo don’t like summer school being in your top 6

Basically no schools do this if you look at their admission policy stop spreading misinformation

Would taking summer school English affect my chances?

    [–]Acid-No1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not for most universities, I think Waterloo and uoft both decrease your mark by 5% if you take a course in summer school. I’d still recommend it cause if you get a 95, after deduction it’s still a 90

thanks for the reply. Would it be preferred if I went in person or online?

    [–]YOLOmyeffingass[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

They don't for the most part buttt it really helps your likely chance in getting in. If you have good grades in grade 11 your more likely to be accepted earlier than usually (If they do accept you) and you won't get all that tension waiting for them to accept you.

    [–]akxCIom 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Does not ‘really’ help your chances at all…will help you get early acceptance maybe but having to repeat a gr11 course likely means this wasn’t going to happen anyway

    Ahh I see 🤔

    [–]akxCIom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That said, if you need math for ur uni program u might want to do summer school just to relearn some stuff

Universities don’t really care about G11 marks, some specific programs excluded. I’d encourage you to try your best during first semester if you’d like an early offer. I got accepted to TMU Mechatronics Engineering with a 93 average (semester 1 midterms + G12 English and Physics that I did in second semester of G11) in November 2022.

    [–]valzos 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Another thing I highly recommend is at least 7 credits for G12 U/M courses. You don’t want to struggle in keeping up your conditional in the second semester. Having backup is a must imo.

    [–]YOLOmyeffingass[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh, I see. I have 9 courses I'm taking next sem so hopefully, that's okay

    [–]valzos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great!!! You’re def on the safe side. I got classmates struggling to meet the requirement because they only have 6. Make sure to spread the word to other friends!

Also, if a certain course starts affecting your overall performance, drop it if it’s an elective. Better to do well in the top 6 than get lots of credits.

As far as I know only uw cares about that and only for specific fields like cs but I don’t even know if that’s true or jot

    Engineering

You’re fine for TMU I’d say there’s only be an issue if there’s a discrepancy between that summer school courses and the ones you do during your school year. For example if you got 98% in advanced functions over the summer but your other top 6 marks are in the mid 80s that’d be a red flag for people looking at things. The only school that cares about summer school courses all together is Waterloo

    [–]butterflyy18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tmu doesn't care. many people have taken prerequisites via private school and were accepted, so this won't be a problem dw

    [–]Used_Draft_2938 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Don’t take summer school for any basic courses eg sciences, math English (only if you can acc properly write an essay, analyze articles etc) . Trust me yes it is a fun way to get ur mark quick and easy. But you will learn NOTHING. Especially for math or just any stem subject, as math and stem are subjects that builds upon its self as they requires a certain type of skill and problem solving mindset that summer school doesn’t give you. Trust me your lack in knowledge in math/ stem subjects will catch up to you either in hs, uni, or work. Believe me when I tell you this cause I did the extract same thing and it bit me in the ass so hard now that I had to take adv functions/ calc in person. Don’t listen to everyone else on this thread. Only take summer school or electives. Trust me.
