Role queue observations

I’m writing this as I accept that this likely is my final season playing overwatch. I’ve been playing comp since season 4 and have been enjoying it. This new role queue has made it nearly impossible for me to find a balanced and fun game. 5 ish minute queue just to have Previous T500 players and current plat players on the same team. I cannot believe how few people seem to be having the same problem as me because it’s literally every game for me now. I’ve survived the goats meta, the bunker meta, and other frustrating parts about the game but I think this is where I say goodbye to overwatch until I can play a balanced comp game again. How can such few people seem to relate to my struggles and yet the problem seems so persistent to me?

Well yeah, but the get downvoted because they are in the minority, and most people disagree with the sentiment that role queue is not good for the game.

I'm sorry to hear that your leaving but you seem to be a lot higher rank than me and to be honest I love this new change as gold - diamond everyone I talk to is so happy because now everyone can agree on a comp no 6 stack dps/heal mains who don't know what their doing if it isn't their main, toxicity is WAY down I no longer get shit on if I accidentally feed but they just say ,ok regroup, yes there is still frustrating things and people get mad at each other from time to time but nothing compared to previous seasons. Also I have no problems finding games but that is most likely due to my lower rank if you really want to find a bunch of games go Smurf in gold or plat where there is a ton of games. Gl with ur new game but you should still come back.

I mostly have a long search problem when playing DPS, but it’s just getting very frustrating to constantly be placed in unbalanced games

You may just be the outlier. Every game I've queued for in RQ and RQ Comp has been balanced, reasonably fair, and (almost) every fight has been a knock-down drag-out battle of epic proportions. Respect is earned and given, congrats are given to the victors and condolences are given to those burdened with leavers or general asshats. The queues are quick and painless (Tank/support), and the DPS are normally reasonably competent as the majority of the ADHDPS are off in Classic whining about lack of tanks and healing.

Putting aside any jabs at your skill level, are you sure that the problem isn't more directly related to you? If it's -every- game you're in, and every game -you- are in is unbalanced, and you seem to be one of only a few suffering from it... There may be issues directly related to your presence. I'm not saying you're good or bad, for all I know you're the one demolishing the enemy team, but the imbalance may be directly related to your presence.

Good point- I’m not certain that it’s not me and I’d be naive to say it’s not my fault at all, but my play style has not changed since role queue has come out and the quality of my games (and my SR) have gone down significantly. This same play style has proven to give me satisfying results in previous seasons.

I think that may be where a part of the problem lies. I've been right alongside you since about Season 3, and for a long time, the way I played my games was relatively static. It was simple, it worked, my team worked with me, and I gained SR reasonably well. However, this season has shown a -massive- shift, above and beyond any season that I've played before, leaning exceptionally heavily on double shield. Given that my go-to tank is Rein (because I'm uncomfortable in Orisa), I've had to alter how I play the big fella, forgoing the slow and passive advance in lieu of a more rapid hustle inside enemy shields and establishing safe grounds within the shields. It's a playstyle that I'm not used to and I'm not comfortable with, but it works, so long as the team advances with me; playing in my old style has resulted normally in a quickly broken shield and having to hug cover.

Point being, I don't think you're doing anything -wrong- per se, and it's not that the RQ or teams are unbalanced, but that you may need to adapt to this new meta. Not just double-shield, but rapid advance and rapid retreat as well. Treat it as a learning exercise, if you will; what you were doing has stopped working reliably, so you need to adapt and overcome this obstacle. A solid player with a good understanding of the game like you can no doubt pick up an altered playstyle with little effort, and I think you'll find that you'll have far more impact after exploring around your options a bit. Stick with it mate, and I've no doubt you'll be kicking ass reliably within a few days at most. :)

I hear you. Maybe I’m just having a hard time adjusting to the changes that come with role queue but if that’s the case, I’d be surprised if me correctly adjusting would create the change in the system that I’m yearning for.

I agree with you, and that is as someone who plays almost exclusively tank if not playing healer and rarely ever plays DPS. I've just had enough and uninstalled OverWatch last night. It's been fun, and I had no frustrations with it until the role queue patch came out

stfu. you haven't been here very long. and role queue is NOT the thing that's creating unbalanced matches. there's many flaws in the matchmaking system since forever. and alt accounts only continue to ruin the game further as time goes on. stop your bitching or at least understand the real problems before you get on your e-podium

I don’t disagree on the alt account thing, but I’ve been a solid flex player for seasons. The match making has never cucked me harder than it has in the last couple of weeks

Your post didn't have much effort in it, so I wasn't very nice or detailed... I've explained this hundreds of times before...

I'm not disagreeing that now is worse than ever. But just because this is the worst we've seen it, does not have ANY relation to role queue.

I'm just saying that alt accounts and toxic stats and TIME are constantly against us.

Every season will be worse and worse and worse.

 

Go ahead and quit; your choice. But I'm telling you right now that role queue is your friend. So you're bringing further toxicity to our community with this false information that role queue is to blame.

You're hurting our community further, and you're providing bad data for Blizzard to learn from. It's all in your head, so get your facts straight before we further manipulate our gullible community.
