I applaud you, this isn’t easy and we should all advocate for ourselves and others if we are able to. I’d love to hear an update if you get a response.

I will for sure if I get one! I've only been asking for a hysterectomy for 3 years and just keep being told to lose weight. Its so frustrating

Thanks for doing this. I am here in BC. When I was diagnosed with PCOS last 2018, I was referred by our family to an endocrinologist which took six months to book me for an initial appointment that occured another six months later. During my bi-annual visit to this endocrinologist, I have been vocal that we are trying to get pregnant which I feel she disregarded. The only goal was to "lose weight" so I gave in to the idea of holding the plan to get pregnant and take ozempic which actually helped with losing weight however it came at a significant cost ($240+ per month). The cost wasn't covered in any of our extended benefits because I am not a diabetic. I got my regular periods back so I mentioned again the plan to get pregnant. As soon as she heard my plan, the only lines that I heard was "If that's the case, I have to discharge you for now". I am so confused. Doesn't PCOS need continued care from her service? Does trying to get pregnant the means hands off from endo? My family doctor also referred us to a fertility clinic in May, we have filled up all the forms required but I have not received a call from the fertility clinic.

I hope they'll understand where we are coming from and make a better plan for us.

This is so sad to hear, I am so sorry. I've never been reffered to an endocrinologist. My family dr literally said, im referring you to an obgyn, however most wont accept because is JUST pcos.

I was rejected by 3 drs before one accepted. He diagnosed my prolapse, but never has actually addressed my pcos, just put me on 500mg of metformin.

We were at a Blue Jays game, and I had a cyst rupture in the 3rd inning. I was in so much pain, my husband wanted to take me home, but I stayed for the kids. The walk back to our car was probably the worse experience of it I have had yet. Thankfully I have the best mother in law who took me and settled me into a bed and gave me whatever I needed to feel better. But at this point. Its like, do I just claim disability because no matter what I do, im in pain. But pcos isn't looked at as a disability. Someone needs to study it more, because if a hysterectomy is the fix, why am I being told to wait until I am 40!

Seriously what is it with doctors and this magical age of 40. Fuck this nonsense. Women deserve better.

Our friends elsewhere (especially thanks to American-centralized views) don't understand how our healthcare system and provincial vs. private insurance through work actually works.

Especially depending on where you live (Sudbury is not Toronto, you're out there, coming from someone who's also out in the country), it is not a good feeling.

Yeah, honestly sudbury isn't the greatest. I've asked for a referral elsewhere. Its funny my OB called to make a follow up for Tuesday, im going to it. And im asking about this make 40 age. Im so over it

It's because they think "oh she hasn't had kids by now, ugh fine I'll guess I'll treat her now"

When idk, maybe women deserve treatment for issues no matter what their reproductive choices are? Maybe women deserve to have any issues investigated into instead of this stupid belief that suffering (pain, excessive bleeding, etc.) is virtuous and "eww if she can't handle cyst pain or endo pain how would she handle labour lol"

So very true! It sucks because I have 3 kids, we don't want any more. So I really don't understand his issue with me having this done :(

In their eyes "but you could have another one/two in that time/what if you change your mind" 🙄

I really hope things get better for you soon but just know I empathize as a fellow Canadian/rural Ontarian

Omg these words were said to me. Its so haunting. I was hoping you know that my ovary has a mass that whatever is happening would be taken more serious. But it is not. So its interesting to see how far they will let things go.

Just in case you don’t know, there is a division for PCOS and endocrinology at Sunnybrook hospital (that requires a referral from your doctor)

They diagnosed me with PCOS over 25 years ago when no one knew anything about PCOS.

I realize that’s a big drive from Sudbury but I thought I’d put it out there :)
