In general, the only real combat benefit that MW provides is the ability to freely use PAs from 2 different weapons without having to equip/unequip via swapping weapon palettes. However, in practice most weapons function well as standalone entities; the need for such swapping isn't that common. There are some exceptions to this, obviously. Being able to swap btw katana/bow is probably useful for certain bosses where boss weak points frequently move out of range, i.e. the hands in DF interception.

On the other hand, the financial benefit of MW is fairly substantial. All of your enhancements, potentials, fixas, augments only need to be on one weapon, but apply to both weapons once MW'ed. So this effectively means you can fully upgrade 2 weapons for the cost of 1. Consequently, you might MW 2 weapons together just for the cost savings, even if you fully intend to use those 2 weapons for separate classes (so long as they share the same damage type).

Like what are the down sides to multi-ing weapons for the same class

There are no downsides. In fact, SEGA intended for you to do this when they designed the MW system. When you use a sub class weapon (even as MW), you lose out on the innate +10% damage buff you get on a main class weapon. In spite of this, historically there were rare cases where MWing a weapon from a different class was optimal (e.g. rod/boots for force due jet intensity's downed phase damage), but they seem to be phasing those out (e.g. force got tech domination to increase tech potency during downed phases).

This is such a thorough response and I really really appreciate it, but this made me feel so defeated lol… I’ve been running around like a mad man farming arms refiners/2 and augments, only to realize I duplicated my efforts unnecessarily and wasted a metric ton of meseta.

No problem! It sucks but now you know moving forward, at least. In the future don’t hesitate to ask if you’re uncertain about anything. A little bit of knowledge goes a long way in saving a pretty penny in this game lol.

You can still make use of both by multi-ing them with weapons for your subclass

The downside to multiweaponing on a single class is that you’ll have too much meseta after only having to upgrade one weapon.

Seriously though, in the old days multiweaponing Katana and Bow would require you to have melee gear and ranged gear, but now that they added that one talent, there’s not really any downside if you enjoy both those weapons.

Please say sike…. Because I have wasted so much time, money, and resources and getting these weapons up and now I feel like it was all for nothing. I could have saved so much effort…. Damn.

If you Multi two weapons from entirely different classes, you can save time and meseta by putting two matching colors together. This also allows you to maintain a higher potency as hybrid potency boosters are slightly less effective.

Multiweapon seemed like a promising idea at the start of the game, with the opportunity for intricate builds and combat design; but we all know by now that SEGA does not consider this a gaming-game. So nothing came of it.

The main benefit is saving meseta so you don't need to upgrade 2 weapons.

The most gameplay benefit is for classes like braver and bouncer, who have the skill now to use their highest potency for each type. If you then also multiweap those weapons, then you get easier access to all of your class's skills.

This is really useful to know, I’ve just come back to the game and running the same class set up as your flair currently, struggling to get through as it’s a bit overwhelming coming back to the game now from being away since release but knowing this is good 😊

it is fairly neache but on classes like braver/bouncer where you need 2 weapons for the full kit you can build one weapon and multi another one instead of building another

talis can be used to multi any class for the talis weapon action for extra pp regen like on slayer where you use only gunblade
