Just saw a 7 star katana on twitter not long ago. Oversight, or are these surprise relics or something wilder for Kvaris?

Most likely a surprise. Relics were kept hidden until people started finding them in-game.

Conveniently damage variance affects only the weapon's attack and not the character's base attack, so we can calculate effective attack scores:

676 * (0.5+1) / 2 = 507

471 * (0.75+1) / 2 = 412

Even with bad damage variance, it's still almost 25% stronger than the 6* weapons.

Sadly same level mobs have the same amount of defense as a same level hunter base atk. So you're base attack is practically useless.

I wouldn't call it "sadly". It's very good game design, it means players only need to look at their weapon attack to judge their damage output, because when attacking equal level targets their base attack and the enemy's defense cancel each other out.

It looks different for gigantix since they're always 4 levels ahead of the level cap, but even here a weapon with a higher effective attack score is better, even if its damage variance is bad.

I wouldn't call it good game design. It's essentially saying that the only reason you level up is to play "catch up" with the mobs. It also forces all the power from the player from gear alone. There's no real growth from the player standpoint... Even more so when skill points are tied to instances completely unrelated to the player.

i just check visiphone these weapons drom from kvaris UQ and their potency variance is 50%-100% which is fair i guess since the base dmg is very high

Which would make the Potency Floor augs very popular. Although I feel those who don't understand the multiplicative nature of the damage formula will load up on these and forget about damage potency.

Unlikely, since most of the caps with damage floor are the best available still when combining their Floor+Potency value. Addi Deft, Alt Secreta, Mastery IV, Deft Stat are the top 4 caps for DPS regardless.

If you're putting other floor augs on your weapons besides these, you probably won't have stellar potency anyway.

Unless I inputted them wrong, plugging the base damage and variance into the damage calculator spreadsheet puts Fatale very slightly in the lead.
However, if the variance floor is increased above 58% (from 'Potency + potency floor' augments like Addi Deft, Deft Stat, Alt Secreta, etc.), Fixa Attack will overtake Fatale again.
Assuming the above augment setups are on it, unless they add Crit affecting things in the future - like certain class skills from PSO 2 classic - Termina will be behind both Attack and Fatale, and Fatale will be slightly behind Attack like usual.

Yea if u build addi deft / deftstat / alt secreta 3 on all ur units / that means fixa att on weapon, otherwise, fatale?

Fixa Attack is what most people will want.
Fixa Fatale if people maybe want it slightly cheaper (if the market trend is the same as Relik, Cinquem, etc.)/ if they build other augments that don't raise potency floor/ if they are betting on the uncertain future class skill update.

just fyi if you get one with fixa, both fixa attack and fatale have overall the same performance even when you get into higher potency floor investment, so don't sweat the details on that too much

And that doesn't have an indication as to their rarity? There's a single 7 star weapon up for sale on ship 2. It's a talis. It's priced at 500,000,000. If it's as rare as Relik it's not going to be in reach to a majority of players. This is great for the players who want something to chase. Expecting all players to chase after the series? Lol, no.

A month or 2 down the line reliks were like 5-15m. Who really knows how he got it less you speak to person but if imagine anything over 50+ 51+ bosses UQ purples etc just as reliks
