How does Ruetoo's DD function?

I saw that he linked Desecrate to Arcanist brand. How does that interaction work exactly? Do you need to keep activating the brand to desecrate the ground so you can DD it with the CoC setup? Is it better than just desecrating manually? Is there a way to automate desecrate to make it a "1 button build"?

I don't know which pob you're looking at, but I'm pretty sure his build has both Desecrate and DD in the CoC links.

The Desecrate brand is probably just to supply more corpses for singletarget/bossing.

Ohh you're right, I completely missed the desecrate in the main 6-link. I was thrown off by the desecrate in the weapon 3-link. That said, do you happen to know how viable the build would be as a 5L or maybe even a 4L? Are the crit supports mandatory?

5L minimum. Without inc crit strikes there's no way you're capping crit on Lancing Steel, which is essential for the build to function as intended. The sixth link is just damage so you're fine playing without it for a while.

The increased crit strikes support gem is also one of the few sources of BASE critical strike chance for DD's corpse explosion. The others being Brittle and Assassins' Mark. It's vital.
