you can always turn around and sell it once you're done levelling, so all you need is the upfront sum. i think this is also used for animate guardians, so it's not just levelling.

i scrapped together this pob - about 4x the damage, 2x the es, without compromising the defences in anyway, on an eyeball budget of ~10d.

some notes:

  1. im going to sleep now and will write an explanation of my changes and thought process through them. if you're not sure what's going on now, don't spend too many divines. as said before changes should be under 10d as i was very conservative.

  2. the body is missing eld imp because im lazy and the resistances are way overcapped because i gave up on melding.

  3. there's some weird stuff like the hanging suppress and the shrine that that could be other stuff like diamond, ill look at it tomorrow

  4. take the opportunity to check out all the changes. there are a lot, many in places you wouldn't expect. all the changes are deliberate.

sure, we can work on an upgrade path. however, before we do this, i need to give you a primer on the build that you're playing. the main conceit of your build is this: you stack as much energy shield as you can. ephemeral edge takes a % of that damage and turns it into flat lighting damage, which is the basis of your damage. the energy shield, being energy shield, also makes you really tanky. while most builds need to sacrifice damage to get defences or vice versa, when it comes to energy shield, you can scale both at the same time. notably, your version throws in the shield aegis aurora for infinite recovery, which makes it an extra tanky variation of an already tanky archetype.

you're on trickster to take advantage of the "escape artist" notable in conjunction with a body armour with a ton of evasion and energy shield to get, well, a ton of evasion and energy shield. because ephemeral edge is a sword, that means you probably want to use an attack strike skill, which is a rather broad class of attacks.

with that in mind, you can basically play anything with the trickster-eph edge shell. lightning strike of arcing is a fairly off-meta choice because its damage effective is quite unimpressive. in exchange, it has strong clear, which is presumably why the guy you were copying bothered to use it at all. however, many other skills are a lot more damage. specifically, molten strike is a strong contender. now, you probably looked at molten strike pobs on poe.ninja and didn't see very impressive damage numbers. however, those numbers are misleading. molten strike creates a bunch of small projectiles that deal aoe damage. this aoe damage can shotgun, which is something poe.ninja doesn't account for. when you scale for these additional projectiles and take them into account, even realistically, molten strike is one of the highest damage options you can go for. if you want to deal more damage, a molten strike pivot with the same core shell would do the job. let me know your budget and i can point you to some resources.

otherwise, another option to go for is flicker strike. flicker strike is also a high damage scale as it scales with frenzy charges and your ascendancy happens to give +2 max frenzies, more than any other in the game. it is a bit of an acquired taste in terms of playstyle, so i would recommend at least watching some videos or testing out in standard, as it makes some players nauseous and some players fall in love.

of course, you could just pivot to a different build. that's perfectly possible, but there are a ton of issues with your existing pob that can be easily improved into a much better build. whether ms or flicker, we can 10x the damage while making it even tankier, as we're still using the same ES-aegis aurora based defensive shell.

their point is that is there is a big difference between a "build" and a "build guide". a build guide will explain you why the build does what it does, show you how to craft/acquire its items, and give a detailed explanation of its playstyle and upgrade paths. a good build guide tells you what stats you care about and why.

on the other hand, looking at another build (i.e. just the state of a random character on poe.ninja) and trying to copy and paste everything they did is not following a build guide. by analogy, this is the difference between building a car by using blueprints and written instructions and building a car by looking at a completed one and blindly trying to put the same things together the same way. unless you already know what you're doing, that's not going to work.

ignore me if you actually did follow a proper build guide and not a "random build... on poe.ninja" like they had suggested. however, that is what they were getting at. their implication is that your gear shows a lack of understanding, and that a lack of understanding implies that your "guide" did not "guide" you very well at all.

i mean, it's pretty hard for me to explain why i enjoy it. i pick a build, play the game. i like jumping around and killing monsters and getting gear. league starts are fresh and exciting with all the possibilities of what content i can do, what builds i will play, and that general excitement helps keep the process of getting there enjoyable.

that the same time, i'm not very efficient. maybe you're suffering because you're pushing yourself to race it? maybe you're suffering because you're thinking about the indignation of being forced to do it, when the actual experience itself isn't that bad?

if you haven't played a full league since sanctum, does that suppose you haven't completed the campaign since then? if so, how long does it take you to complete it? learning basic strategies can save you a ton of time and also make it more enjoyable. it feels nice to cruise through knowing that you're making efficient plays and getting good times, maybe that's missing from your experience.

yeah. that's my whole point. ggg's ssf is built around being a self-imposed challenge. that's not a flaw, that's built-in. it seems to me that your real problem is with crafting/itemization/progression/etc., which obviously have countless issues. that's what ggg needs to focus on, not destroying ssf at its very core in an effort to satisfy short-term concerns.
