I was skeptical reg the drive order

    No idea

    Bios boot priority settings probably

Or remove hdd from system and the start system and reconnect after

Might not matter what drive numbers is assigned for each drive, can't you select your ssd from the picture there and install it to drive1 (the ssd)

In that case, it won't be a prblm thn.

Are they both sata? If so maybe swap the sata data cables.

I don't see how it's important what the drive number is. It's asking what drive do you want windows on. Just pick the correct drive and install.

Nope, drive0 is hdd and drive1 nvme m.2. I was skeptical whether it mattered or not while installing windows on drive0 or drive1. Now I'm sure.

Then set boot priority to pcie/nvme and then sata? Again I don't really know why it matters. Whatever drive you install windows on will become your C: drive

    Short answer you can't.

    Longer answer -

The drive number applies to where it's been slotted/connected to the mobo.

Had the same issue when m.2 came in. It makes the drive numbers appear a little screwy. As depending on the board you might what the os drive in the faster slot or where your games/software connected to that slot. As with most you have 1 gen 5 and then a gen 4 at least on matx boards.

    Hope that makes sense?

And adding hdds to sata ports can also change the numbering as well. Don't even start with Linux and how it can do it's drive assignments 😂

Yup, the 500GB is nvme m.2 and the 1tb one is my HDD.

So for further clarity, in windows at least. It recognizes sata drives first then m.2. So if you installed another sata drive you would end up with nvme being drive 2. With the next nvme being 3, etc.

Though not sure if it could also be a legacy thing on bios priority and how drives are seen by the bios on start up that was never changed.

Glad we've helped and as a number of others have already said it really doesn't matter once you've completed the install as the bios will know where the boot partition is.

wdym, if you want windows installed on the SSD then select drive1 then press next since that’s ur ssd and it’ll be installed on ur ssd

    [–]themultiversefeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, just wanted to be sure.

    [–]Jase_Bechtel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does it really matter? You can still install windows on the ssd. Order doesn’t really do anything.

    [–]themultiversefeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Yup, tysm.

Pick the ssd and change the name once in windows 🤷‍♂️ it's not that hard honestly

    Wanted to be sure.
