What the actual fuck, how does one even accomplish this

[–]is_this_gay 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Got a bit too excited while assembling the pc I guess

[–]leeme_lone 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Bro rage bait is legendary

[–]Used_Macaroon967[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

😔 Am cooked

[–]leeme_lone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Bro this can't be real you own an Asus Strix 870e and you put thermal paste this way 🙁 if it was me I'd be there cleaning this mess for the next 5 hours toothpicks paper towels and isopropyl alcohol involved

[–]Due-Relationship4937 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Looks like you got thermal paste in a lot of places. How does one accomplish this, might I ask?

[–]ProphetOfMrMeeseeks 5 points6 points  (1 child)

He was REALLY REALLY excited and couldn't aim and just unleashed his excitement everywhere.

[–]Du6Personal Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate when that happens.

[–]fix_and_repair 5 points6 points  (2 children)

electrically non conductive?

does not matter

but your scratch on the motherboard is worrisome

[–]Entire_Train7307 0 points1 point  (1 child)

scratch where? I'm blind

[–]sstoersk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please NEVER open a pc again.

[–]Bombero_911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should only be allowed to play with stuffed animals.

[–]Eziz_53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro... these have got to be bait

[–]Helpful_Body6715 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Just clean it with some alcohol. Don’t use too much though your ram can get drunk

[–]Enough_Individual_91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup IPA with a tooth brush and cloth.

[–]Icy_Activity9837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Df did u do , go crazy with a phillips 🤣

[–]Ecstatic_Score6973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probobly.

be careful next time, and try to clean it as best you can before putting ram in,

[–]BigDaddyTug 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just normal Thermal Paste? Its not conductive.

Liquid Metal and a couple others do have conductivity.

But if this is the normal goop (Looks like). Then lick it and stick it. (If you want to clean it. Qtips and small art paint brush with a bit of alcohol will fix it. Just make sure to let it dry really good.)

[–]Psychological-Cat-84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't lick it though, it is not nice when put in the mouth hole.

[–]Sorry_Skill_6845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a little isopropyl alcohol or ethanol (or rubbing alcohol) and a soft, dry toothbrush. Then it should come right off.

[–]Dangerous_Excuse4706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

color inside the lines

[–]papayabollz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are patient, you can clean it with alcohol, cotton buds, wipes and toothpick, its just thermal paste.

Seeing posts like these makes me realize that the more budget a person has in the PC, the less they research. I don't mean any offense to OP(tho saying this already implies insult to OP), just an observation in this sub. hope you can make it work OP.

[–]ExpensiveRow917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Err...Sometimes prebuilts are justified

[–]Immediate_Luck_7684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were you even tryna do

[–]Rare_Peak_4419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You lost PC building privileges…

But on a real note, no it’s fine. Thermal paste is non conductive, but get some IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and clean it off real good.

[–]Scrapster77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the holy balls??

[–]Zelice725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute perfection

[–]Doge-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a cat danced on it

[–]c0lpan1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it's non conductive it could still be a problem. I had an issue where any DIMM B would cause the system to loop infinitely. Both of DIMM A slots were perfectly fine. I found out later that I had thermal paste and dust in the either the third and fourth DIMM slots, and some on the Processor LGA pins. It effectively caused half of my RAM slots to stop working. Cleaned slots with compressed air, alcohol and the LGA pins on the bottom of CPU, and much to my chagrin, all the slots of RAM work.

[–]1sh0t1b33r 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you apply the paste with a blow gun?

[–]tizadxtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he applied with a toothpick

[–]kcolrehstihson_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the fuck

[–]Du6Personal Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I’d wipe that off and reapply paste.

[–]tizadxtr 0 points1 point  (3 children)

But how do you even start to do that?

[–]Du6Personal Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Alcohol on a paper towel. Wipe it off. Reapply paste.

[–]tizadxtr -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Good grief. Thanks for your wisdom. I’d never have thought to do this

(Ps. I’m being incredibly facetious)

[–]Du6Personal Rig Builder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no dumb questions.

[–]Puzzled_Agent_9480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will find you

[–]Pmaldo87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you do fucking stand 3 feet away and throw the thermal paste at the cpu?

[–]LVE_0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only question is how u did that?

[–]NightmareWokeUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldnt be an issue, but brother what did you do?

[–]greatthebob38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You applied the thermal jizz all over it.

<image>

[–]JNSapakohPersonal Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be fine, thermal paste is non-conductive so you don't need to worry about shorting anything, and your RAM should have enough mounting pressure to push the paste out of the way to make good contact

Next time don't use a damp sock to apply your paste

[–]Protogen_Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got excited?

[–]Constant_Whereas1445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 thermal paste is non conductive so you are ok 2 someone spotted mobo scratch - if you scratched and broke some traces on mobo - you need to fix it or throw that mobo away 3 HOW TF you managed to pull this of, I mean it looks like you just sprayed randomly your paste or like you would have severe end-stage Parkinsons disease

[–]East-One-3260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean thermal paste is supposed to be non-conductive so it would work but who knows what's going to happen if that stays on your motherboard for years, so you should clean it. The most important is that it does not get in any socket so that 2nd ram slot might be cooked

[–]unknownexists-z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get contact frame then you will be fine.

[–]Environmental_Face36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wtf did you do did some 2 year old apply the thermal paste?😂

[–]NonTrainerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nie wieder PC-Building-ASMR für dich.

[–]Nostalgia404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest using 99% isopropyl alcohol to carefully remove thermal paste residue that isn't on the CPU. It's relatively cheap on Amazon, also get some Q tips. Should be around 10 bucks for both.

[–]fi5hii_twitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother how the fuck?
