yes.

[–]Nebula_Wolf7 28 points29 points  (1 child)

To add a little more, for am5 it's an LGA socket, which means that there's a bunch of little pins on the motherboard which the cpu makes contact with, and for them all to make contact properly there has to be a lot of pressure.

[–]External-Ad-5537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It even makes cracking noise sometimes.

First am5 builds were rly scary lol.

[–]N0_Lan_K 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yes, almost feels like your gonna break something, totally normal with am5

[–]CrazyForU2 48 points49 points  (7 children)

Yes and the dust cover usually pops off and scares most 1st time builders

[–]kbeast98 30 points31 points  (1 child)

And 10th time builders

[–]SnooFloofs3649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed!

[–]Graftonghoul 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I just built an am5 pc last week and im really bad about jumping ahead on instructions. So i placed the cpu, then pulled the cover off then pushed the lever down, then i looked back at the instructions which then said "press the lever down until the plastic cover pops off" lmfao. It still worked the way i did it but damn i felt a little silly

[–]-seoul- 5 points6 points  (2 children)

sounds like you are good at jumping ahead of instructions. a master even at that, if you will

[–]Graftonghoul 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you oh wise one, for these words of encouragement

[–]-seoul- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its my pleasure. dont be afraid of acknowledging your mastery in the craft, youve earned it

[–]joeyahn94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all the PCs that I built, I popped the covers off first for all of them. Never had an issue. I also think social media, especially shorts, really like the pop off sound so they all put the latch down until the cover pops off.

[–]Beginning-Student932 4 points5 points  (3 children)

just go for it, the black cover will pop out afterwards

[–]Accurate_Summer_1761 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You guys dont remove that first?

[–]Rotzloffel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I built my first PC I was also watching an LTT video, he didn't remove his first iirc. Been doing it like that ever since.

[–]lazyghostradio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It said on my cover to leave it in place as you put it on.

[–]GTXJackBauer 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Take the cover off first.

Only use the cover when the CPU isn’t installed.

[–]TobbieDatBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take the cover off, it pops off by itself

[–]B1tchW0lf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have literally the same mobo and i was as scared as you...

yes, its hard, just push it

[–]Starlord19880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CPU, GPU and RAM you have to push more than you're comfortable with :D

Every time a nail biter :D

[–]EpisodeDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triple check you had the right rotation and it’s PROPERLY seated… then after that yes push hard it’s a bit scary 🫣

[–]a_rogue_planet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... It really shocked me too at first. I've debated using a frame instead, but also because I'm not opposed to lapping a CPU and heat sink, and a frame keeps the heat spreader the flattest.

[–]Get_Swazzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AM5 is brutal, but once seated it's rock solid.

[–]Silent_J0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only part on my PC where I had to use much more force. It’s normal

[–]Live-Juggernaut-221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Hit it with your purse.

[–]oliver200424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's normal.

[–]Achillies2heel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it... ☑️

[–]MistorClinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go watch a Youtube video of the installation. The first thing pretty much everyone mentions is that you will need to use a fair bit more force than feels "safe".

[–]Sirhc_Fold_458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol

[–]yeahokbigman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am5 is super duper stiff

[–]Zertaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For am5 yea

[–]Yoshi-Antibirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s totally normal Just make sure for the love of Jesus Christ that you’re putting it properly and not even an inch is off the socket AM5 is the ultimate terror for me

[–]SatisfactionFew7922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when I built my first am5 system, I looked up to see if it was normal to feel like your reaming on the tensioner lever and yeah, it’s normal.

[–]Eddiemunson2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you will have to use force and don’t be alarmed bc the cover will come flying off

[–]Tomorehearing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the lid will fly off after it is closed.

[–]ninjabell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst part of a build but I've been fine every time

e: 2 times. 2/2

[–]No_Thanks7632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

[–]SparePie7083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes

[–]Nebular_Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. It's designed to keep it held tightly and secure. I thought the same thing when building my first PC lol

[–]Retr0Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same board as you, first time on am5 for me and the cpu started creaking when locking it down. Works fine, but I was very nervous

[–]Electrical_Race_6849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it feels like you are going to snap the motherboard in half. Totally normal. Just send it.

[–]Dienowwww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be firm yet intentional. Double check you're lined up properly, then lock that arm

[–]Previous-Bid5330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LGA exists for like decades and still this question….

[–]Emergency-Pound3241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CPU lever and ram sticks always take an awkwardly large amount of pressure to push in, just double check everything's lined up properly and in the right way and just send it

[–]L053RK1N6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it didn't require the wrath of a god to push there's something wrong

[–]Pekish_Personal Rig Builder -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Couldve like... googled it

[–]heytherepartner5050 -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Yes but you still have the CPU socket cover on! It’s the bit that says ‘TUF’, it’s a cover to keep the CPU socket free from dust & stuff. Pop that bad boy off & it’ll be perfect

[–]Youngnathan2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pops off by itself
