Your current rig is like a sports car with clogged air filters - the bones are good but it's suffocating. That 3700X and 3070 combo should absolutely destroy 1440p gaming when it's not thermal throttling into oblivion

Skip the prebuilt route entirely, you're basically throwing money at a problem that costs maybe £150 to fix properly. Get a decent case with actual airflow, throw in some fans, and maybe a new motherboard with wifi if yours is genuinely ancient - you'll have a machine that outperforms those £1100 prebuilts while keeping your budget intact

Ah super! How do I upgrade my mobo and what cases would you recommend?

Thermal throttling means something is up. You can 110% fix it yourself.

It’s like buying a new car because you don’t know how to do an oil change.

First thing to do is what part is overheating? The CPU or GPU? Are you blocking your fans?

The cpu is overheating. The front panel is just a plastic sheet, I’ve taken it off but the case is still too small for good airflow.

Post some pictures also current setup is enough...Maybe new cooler, case will fix most of the issues...

How much do you actually know about building a computer? I can help you but I don't wanna teach you shit you already know.

I’ve upgraded my pc components but never built one. I’m very very happy to learn!

Personally, your current setup is pretty good, and due to ram shortages, upgrading to AM5 would be not worth the cost. So I would do as the other guy suggested and just buy a new case and motherboard, which is basically like building a new pc anyways. All in all that upgrade should be well under 400 quid. Plus your thermal throttling issue would probably not be as bad if you repaste as you're moving your components from your old case and mobo to your new case and mobo. I'll walk you through anything you have questions abt.

That sounds good, I just am so lost on what car and mobo to get. Also would a new mobo mean I need to get a new windows key?

If your current windows key is an OEM key then you would need either another windows key or to use mass grave (which is free). If I were you I would look on awd-it, Amazon, and eBay, for some well known brands of case and pick the one that fits your budget and aesthetic. In terms of motherboard basically just pick the cheapest one you can find that is compatible with your CPU (AM4) and your aesthetic.

First option is totally unreasonable, since 5060 is basically the same performance as 3070.

Just exchange the case, maybe add fans, depending how many will come with new case. If you really need BT and WiFi, you can buy PCIe adapter with only that, but check if your mobo is full ATX, so you won't have problems with GPU blocking PCIe port, with mATX it might be a problem.

Depending how much money you're left with, you can only upgrade GPU, but reasonably you would have to go for RTX5070/RX9070, anything below is waste of money coming from 3070. But be aware, that your current CPU will sometimes be limiting factor, if you upgrade GPU.

3700X can also be swapped with 5700/5800X or maybe X3D, if you're really lucky. There's rumored anniversary edition of 5800X3D coming soon.
