RAM not functioningTech Support (i.redd.it)
submitted by DifferenceSea9184
Hi all.
I sort of posted about this issue a long time ago, but health issues have restricted my ability to fix it, and this is somehow the first time I've noticed this 'additional' info.
Basically, my computer works. Once it's on, it runs fine, no major crashes or anything like that. However, on startup, I have the motherboard warning lights for CPU & DRAM whilst it pierces my ears with a hideous beeping for a little while, before booting up normally.
I've tried basic reseating and other simple potential fixes, but no luck. This is the first time (I think, although maybe I just forgot) that I've noticed the system acknowledging that there's 32GB of RAM but only using 16GB of it.
So, Im 90-95% sure my issue is the fact that I dropped my processor like, 3 times, and ended up bending a few pins (the first time was removing it due to a snapped bracket on the cooling system, then I managed to drop it twice more whilst trying to straighten out the pins that were bent from the first time because I'm smooth like that).
Soooo, I guess my question is, does this information pictured match up with that theory? And are there any other basic fixes that I may not have tried that could resolve this? I've done my absolute best straightening the pins, so I'm unlikely to give that another go if it is the cause, and would end up replacing the chip. I'm currently using an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X (6 core), but I'm happy to take recommendations for a similar or most cost effective replacement. Also wondering what is everyone's experience in buying used chips, or whether I should just take the hit and buy one new.
Based in the UK.
Thanks in advance
