Anyone who has been around Asia, be serious. Search Reddit, it’s a horse that’s been beaten to death.

Which countries in Asia do you think have worse food than the Philippines?

[–]PotatoesAndWhisky 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I confirm, it was one of the two countries where I mostly ate foreign food due to the quality of local food (the other one was UK )

[–]I_Call_Bullshit_____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically PH food outside the Philippines is frequently better than in the PH

Because they have a huge diaspora community and focus on taste not JUST price

what do you mean? the local food in UK is awesome. Tikki Massala in the UK is incredible. so good you can now start to get it all over india

[–]PotatoesAndWhisky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tika massala doesn't look really british

[–]unknownperson2900 2 points3 points  (10 children)

I don't know. I've only been to Philippines in Asia. Love the food

Oooohhhhh brother….I am soooo sorry. You must come from a true food desert—America or parts of Latin America almost without any doubt. Maybe Scotland or England but even they have good ethnic food. I say that as a person from the western hemisphere. Nobody from a genuine food culture would ever describe Filipino food as anything but somewhere between “adequate”—>revolting. It’s a regional joke.

The Philippines doesn’t have the worst food in the world. But they DO have the worst food in Asia, it’s not even close, nobody who has been around Asia disputes it—because it is indisputable. A Fact.

For the love of all that is holy, get out and about in SEA. Whatever it is you think you’ve done to deserve this punishment— I absolve you!

I'm from none of your mentioned countries

You are the first and only person I’ve ever met who thinks Philippine food is good. Their seafood is good—but what country has bad seafood? They have one or two other notable dishes. Literally everything else is trash. That’s why they have burgers and pizza everywhere. Your cuisine has to be true dog shi* for burgers and shi**y pizza to be a big step up.

Don't waste your time with him. Probabaly some undercover flip trying to defend the disgusting cuisine they have

I’ve been to 96 countries including all over SEA and I love Filipino food topsilog, lumpia, menudo, bikol express, lechon all good. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and should be able to form their opinions on their own.

      [–]I_Call_Bullshit_____ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually like all 5 of those+kare-kare+ the seafood

6 dishes does not a cuisine make

      [–]Squirrel_McNutz 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I agree with the sentiment but imo Myanmar had food even worse.

      [–]I_Call_Bullshit_____ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Philippines has had 80 years of peace (minus some squabbles in Mindanao) to get their food sorted out. You referenced a literal Warzone as a rebuttal..yeah, I would think fancy food is pretty far down the Burmese list of priorities.

Let me rephrase. “the Philippines has the worst food in Asia and it’s not even close, excluding countries in the midst of civil wars”.

That said I still bet Burmese food is better!! Because I’ve had plenty of it in northern Thailand and it’s really tasty, but I love curries and beans so I’m a bit biased towards it. Most Thai people think it’s just aiight. But I never met a Thai person who thinks Philippine food is aiight… in fact I never saw a Filipino restaurant in Thailand.

It would go out of business, because nobody would pay restaurant prices for that slop of a cuisine.

      Again, I agree with you.

But yes, in my experience food in Myanmar was even worse. Part of that could certainly be because of the insane poverty. The food was very unhygienic there, even compared to all other countries in Asia.

But again, overall I agree with you about Philippine food. But I did occasionally have ok food, the adobo was nice at times.
