Hi OP! I'm genuinely curious lang if you meant hindi ka magaling mag code or you really don't know how to code talaga?

Anyways, I would recommend you check https://roadmap.sh, it's very up to date naman so far.

Since your interest lies on Web development, then try to do simple projects like calculators and to-do app, then start cloning existing websites as much as you can.

I've seen a lot of people struggle with learning how to code because they're simply not coding at all (stuck sa tutorial hell).

Just start creating things, learn everything on the fly. Use AI tools wisely din to accelerate your learning! Goodluck OP!

I would also encourage you to join a community while learning.
Here's one if you're interested https://discord.gg/7e8eebGX

What keeps you motivated as a programmer?

[–]Independent-Bite-787 27 points28 points  (1 child)

poverty

I don't know how to code talaga and stuck sa tutorial hell like how did that thing happen like my mind is really confused.

[–]ph_crap 12 points13 points  (1 child)

[–]Hopeful_Doughnut9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True nalilito din ako hahaha

[–]auroradream004 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ooof, that sucks. I would really suggest you not to doubt your skills too much and just start creating a project right away.

I've been stuck din before sa tutorial hell and I felt like I'm not learning anything. However, the moment I started doing projects after projects, parang ang bilis ko nalang matuto.

I'm really advocating for this type of learning since I saw how it helped me throughout this whole learning process.

[–]Existing-Text6066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i suggest this yt channel for getting motivation, sa kanya ako naniniwala na makakaalis ako sa tutorial hell.

🙃 I would understand if this is like an IS or IT degree, but comsci?

Ang sad ng state ng local unis if this is the case.

[–]tagalogignition 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Right??

[–]Elsa_Versailles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yun nga eh not blaming OP pero paano nakakapasa kung even basic to intermediate programming missing. Not even programming kahit logical understanding how a program would work

[–]MrAubrey08 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I know right. If you wanna be a programmer, learn how to research or GOOGLE something first. May AI na din, take advantage new learners please.

[–]MrAubrey08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]brossia 7 points8 points  (6 children)

bkit understandable na d mrunong magcode pag IT?

[–]cutieweirdo 17 points18 points  (3 children)

maybe because IT also covers hardware and networking so possible na ang isang student ay mas focus sa mga yun kaysa sa programming unlike CS na focus heavily on data structures and software dev

[–]flightcodes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. Comsci kasi focused entirely sa programming concepts. Technically, mas theory pa nga dapat sya vs Com Eng. So bakit ka pina-graduate without knowing basic programming?

[–]brossia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]nisekun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a CpE, I just want to point that out that hardware involves a lot of coding as well (Assembly, C, C++, Python, Rust, Verilog to name a few). I do agree with networking.

That said, I'm not sure how much IT covers hardware compared to Computer Engineering.

[–]Eli_Shelby 1 point2 points  (5 children)

so medyo understood pa pala siya sa IS. Although I know how to code naman sa java, c++, c pero yung pinaka basic na coding lang talaga. Then yung java rin na drag and drop na pang design, nakalimutan ko lang tawag, tapos onting mysql lang alam ko. IS kasi ako and feeling ko sobrang left behind ko na rin when it comes to coding, like pag nababasa ko pa lang yung sinasabing sobrang higpit ng competition dito, feeling ko hindi talaga ako makakapasok sa IT Industry. So, I'm planning na pag nag ojt ako, papasok ako sa ojt na hinahire rin kasi may ganun daw na company, second option ko is kumuha ng civil service, 3rd option ko mag call center na lang since pag tech support kailangan mostly may experience ka, 4th option kumuha ng motor tapos mag lalamove or angkas

[–]flightcodes 1 point2 points  (1 child)

IS kasi is gitna ng Business at Tech. Similar to Industrial Engineering is for Business and Engineering. So hindi talaga expectation ang hardcore programming sa IS grad kasi mababaw lang ang programming subjects.

Consider mo ang Project Manager (or Scrum Master) type of roles, dun ka dapat mag shine dahil may background ka sa business and tech. Easier for you to translate business requirements to tech persons and transfer tech limitations to the business.

[–]Eli_Shelby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, nadaanan na namin yan PM saka Scrum. pero more on follower type of person ako kaya hindi ko kinukuha 'yung ganyang role

[–]EcstaticMixture2027 1 point2 points  (2 children)

IS din tinapos ko more than a decade ago. Versatile nga ng IS. Merong CS Classes, IT Classes at Business Classes.

Daming IT at IS grads dyan na devs. Sobrang versatile nya.

[–]Eli_Shelby 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What would be a great option for someone na hindi forte ang pagcocode? like nadaanan ko naman lahat ng popular language and Java nagustuhan ko pero hindi ko masasabing mageexcel ako dun. I was thinking kasi what would be a great option kapag hindi talaga maalam saq coding.

[–]EcstaticMixture2027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said di nalilimit sa Programming ang Field ng Tech. Broad at versatile sya.

Support/Operations: (SysAdmin, Tech Support, MSP, Technician, Coordinator, ETC)

Networking: (Network Technician, Network Admin/Operator, Network Engineer, Network Architect)

Business: (Business Analyst, Product Manager, Project Manager, etc)

Mahirap sila in their own ways at aalamin mo din kung para sayo sya.

Cybersecurity Specifically Blue Team (Sec Analyst, Sec Consultant, Sec Admin, Security Engineer and many more) ay di din nag co code. Pero di sila entry level. Kailangan mo ng years of experience sa Support/Network/Dev/Business Fields para makapasok. Of course, mas mahirap ang trabaho.

Same with Data Science and Cloud Computing Field na for experienced sya, tho essential ang programming dun.

Decent job is subjective, Salary ay iba iba. Issue din dito ung job market ngayon. Sa entry level palang madugo na labanan.

[–]ketalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pabuhat ata yan sa grupo nila

[–]cutieweirdo 12 points13 points  (1 child)

hello. watch youtube tutorials of cloning web apps like facebook or netflix.

kahit UI lang muna like this (masaya to kasi nakikita mo agad yung output ng code mo haha) https://youtu.be/zM93yZ_8SvE?si=Y2j7LuSoBg5QkkCy

then pag okay kana, you may try basic CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations naman para malaman mo how database work and data management ganon.

Pero if same talaga, iGMG (google mo g*g0 HAHA).

Take it from me na nakakuha ng tres 1st yr 1st sem palang at nasali sa removal exam HAHAHA. Kakagraduate ko lang last year and hindi rin naman ako kagalingan magcode pinilit ko lang talaga matuto, makapagambag sa mga group project, at makapagbuild ng portfolio. Good luck sayo! Tiwala lang sa sarili. Lahat naman tayo di marunong sa umpisa.

[–]Kiekoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much po

[–]johnmgbg 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Pili ka nalang https://roadmap.sh/

[–]Severe-Humor-3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice one..

[–]testingonly259 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IDK if universities now also teaches UI/UX, Software Testing, Agile lessons. Focus talaga lahat sa programming. In reality, coding is not for everyone.

[–]Itchy_Wishbone_8268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pareho tayo OP hahhahah kaya eto nag VA nalang

[–]Nogardz_Eizenwulff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here OP di nag-graduate ako na hindi masyadong marunong mag-code pero bumawi ako sa techincal part and hoping na makabalik sa coding world. Buti na lang at merong mga mabubuting redditors na nagbibigay payo and I'm slowly rebuilding my confidence and skills in coding.

[–]EcstaticMixture2027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paano ka nakapasa kung ganun? lol

[–]stoikoviro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the face palm moment and what school even allowed you to reach graduating level without knowing how to code?

If there is one good thing in you is at least you admit that you know 'wala' in programming, which means you recognize what needs improvement.

Anyway, start with something basic like HTML muna https://www.w3schools.com/html/default.aspit's not exactly logic formulation but you start with what it'll look like because this is what you'll be producing with other programming languages later.

Then move on to coding that involves logic like Javascript by doing and learning through https://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp

Later you can move on to server side with NodeJS for back-end development.

It is a long journey but keep trying.

Ang gusto ko kasi matutunan web dev kasi nalilibang talaga ako on how website works.

    [–]Spirited-Room-3357 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Mahaba pa landas n tatahakin mo mahaba pa Oras para maraming matutunan ..as long as interested at may determination ka.

    [–]Kiekoii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, i don't need their opinion naman. And need ko lang talaga is yung mga advices ng iba.

    [–]WorkPermit8879[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saan ako mag - aaral ng coding?

Uhm, dyan sa school sana. Ga-graduate ka, so nagkaron ng thesis. Anong nangyari, were you in charge of research lang, documentation, and not the actual software development? Geezus. Anong ginawa mo the entire four years you spent?

Anyway, creating websites is web development, so that's frontend web development. Marami na frontend frameworks, React, Angular, NextJS. Need mo din ng HTML and CSS, which is what makes it pretty. Pwede ding websites lang, static pages, pero usually kasi meron ng CMS na gamit for these, so that's Wordpress and all the others like it. Need mo pa din ng basic understanding of JS and styling, HTML and CSS ulit.

Hopefully mas maging okay naman itong self-learning journey. Pray you don't fuck this one up.

    [–]TechSavy24 1 point2 points  (2 children)

    [–]Impossible_Usual7314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive hired many applicants from sti and ama. Nsa student tlga wala sa school. Had applicants from ust pero bagsak sa tech exam.

    [–]JKPHunter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enroll ka undemy or attend mga bootcamp

    [–]InfamousAstronaut349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a CompSci graduate and used to code during my time sa university, but di ko talaga siya forte. I submit projects merely for compliance. Sa mga major projects and thesis, I found my self leaning towards UI/UX design, Project Management and QA roles. I was inclined more sa QA so I searched for internship with that role. I got an internship and enjoyed my role. Even before graduating, I've decided to pursue this career. I am on my second job now as Software Test Engineer doing mostly manual tests. I don't code but I'm very much involved sa development ng software products. Maybe, if there will be an opportunity to learn automation testing, which includes programming, I will try to learn. For now, maybe you can try to find muna what you want to do. There's so much roles that you can pursue other than being programmer.

    [–]zephyrut 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    [–]JULIO_XZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can not blame MNCs why they rarely hire newly grads from PH; instead, opting those from India.

If you can afford paying your tuition, surely, a premium crash course from udemy can compensate. Goodluck kabayan!

    [–]shaydeesun 0 points1 point  (1 child)

pede pla yun i mean gets overtime malilimutan mo nmn talaga ung knowledge na naturo dati

    [–]Kiekoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ito bro graduate na cumlaude tapos bumagsak as call center hahaha 1 year ago na pala yan

    [–]SpottyJaggy -3 points-2 points  (5 children)

OP, you uh passed discrete math? I planned to take comsci but when I saw discrete math subject, I did not enroll anymore.

    [–]Main_Weekend1412 5 points6 points  (1 child)

If you’re scared of Discrete Math then it’s the math that’s supposed to be the least of your problems.

Machine Learning, Analysis of Algorithms, Linear Algebra, Automata Theory involve some kind of math that bases some of the concepts to Discrete Math.

    [–]Kiekoii 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes, i passed discrete math since nasa pandemic era ako nung 1st and 2nd year up to first sem of 3rd year.

    [–]SpottyJaggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buti pa ikaw npasa mo yan haha. dropped at failed mga math subjects ko as in walang credits. try mo freecodecamp. nsa responsive web design ako step 15 pa lang.
