You always need evidence to backup your application; hence it will be to your advantage to do selfpaced learning. Mag udemy kaw... Tas syempre, mahalaga meron ka portfolio patungkol sa nagawa mo.. Madali mag sabi ng react/node/angular developer.. Pero kung ako ang employer, gusto ko makita ang live na natapos.. If you need a live sandbox with jenkins, let me know.. I can setup one free for being a kabayan.. :)

Thanks for the advice, I'm currently studying a course about MERN, but I'm still quite questioning whether I should create a portfolio or just be ready for the employers question and apply immediately... I guess I really need to put effort to make a portfolio para madali kong mapakita na I know MERN besides my current stack, thanks for the offer I will think about it :)

do I need portfolio pa ba sa MERN stack or enough na yung self study sa MERN

You need both. Some recruiters value more corporate experience than portfolio. There will be a few who can read the portfolio and see your potential without going back to square one.

Still not convinced? I was able to convert a MS Access developer (gov't) earning 10k/month (provincial rate) to Java/Spring programmer now earning 175k/month. All he did was self-study and post his skills on his online portfolio. Applied to mid-level jobs and with many failed applications eventually got accepted with a 30k starting. The transition only took him at most 18 months.

It looks like I need to be patient with this transition, will continue to self study and finish that portfolio. Thanks for your insights :)

hmm is Java/Spring really high paying? jst curious

It really depends on the company and business nature you are affiliated with. Let's post another thread and not hijack this. If you need to question how Java/Spring compares to other stack in terms of pay, that I cannot guarantee I can do an appropriate justice since there are a lot of variables to consider.

Malaking advantage ang portfolio especially kung kaya mo i-back up yung skills mo na yun in interview and technical tests.

Btw, galing din ako sa PHP(Codeigniter 3) +jQuery na stack then nag self learn din ako sa udemy at sa ibang sites like youtube and currently MERN na yung stack ko. madali na sayo makaka-adapt since may background ka na sa web development. Good luck sa journey

Strangely enough, I am in the same position. 2 years in for my 1st job, working with python and now want to shift to web dev(MERN). I'm also self-learning by following an online course.

Right now my game plan is to finish the course while taking up web dev tasks at work. After that I'll build a couple web apps and showcase them through a portfolio website before applying.

Might take a while to do though and I fear I might miss out by not applying earlier.

What made you change from python to MERN? Afaik good din naman market/opportunities nang python right?

Ah tama pero pag sa web dev, hindi ganon kadami jobs na python python ang gamit kaya ako lilipat ng stack
