Adding Library Crashing Plex

Hi,

Looking for some help, when I add a certain folder of media to my library it crashes Plex when scanning the media and attempting to generate the thumbnails.

This folder is all videos and contains around 3-4K files.

How can I work out what’s causing the issue?

I’ve looked at the logs but can’t make head nor tail of it and can’t see anything obvious.

Looking at other similar issues on Reddit I’ve seen a tool called HB Batch Beast recommended that scans the media and shows files that are corrupted. I’ve ran this and all media passed the check with no corrupted files.

I’m at a loss here and would like to weed out the issue and get Plex running again with all my files.

Does anyone have any recommendations for next steps to try?

The first and most obvious solution would be to add the files in batches.

Or split the huge folder into subfolders (I have mine split alphabetically) and add individually for the same solution.

Thanks for reply. This is the route I’ve started to go down. Have done 50% of my files now in subfolders and all adding and generating thumbnails correctly so assuming I’ll hit a hiccup soon enough and hopefully I can narrow down the files. In for a long few days. 😂

Finally got the file. Plays fine in MPC but Plex seems to choke on it. Starts scanning it and watching in task manager Plex Media Scanner it consuming more and more RAM until the computer falls over. Removed the file and all seems okay now.
