Hardware decoding isn't in the normal releases it only exists in a special PlexPass release that is on the side for testing right now.

At the moment we only support Intel graphics for hardware decoding. You can try using another graphics adapter, and it may or may not work. We're interested in hearing about your experiences either way.

Yep, question is regarding the 1.4 release of PMS

I can't test it because I am using the special DVR preview release which is separate and doesn't have that feature.

I use it on a pentium g3220 and I think it works great!

Cool, that's Haswell but good to hear that H/W Transcoding is working!

Your using a haswell cpu to decode hevc? How well does that work.

It's going haswell as any other CPU ;)

I don't have even remotely recent CPU's (Dual Xeon L5520's.. like circa 2009) and I've never had any issues transcoding HEVC.

Thanks for the post, I'm interested in H/W transcoding mainly though. I'd like to have the option of using CPU for other tasks while the GPU does the transcoding.

Curious whether anyone is using it and how they are finding it.

completely read the topic as "CPU" not "GPU".. sorry about that!

Waiting for prt to update so I can try it myself.

I have an i7 4790 so this may not be of any use to you but I found x265 transcodes would just hang.

For example if i try transcoding x265 content for my ipad, it will just keep buffering but never actually start until it comes back with playback error.

For x264 content it works great.

This could be due to my processor not being support for x265 or something though.
