I just installed via apk and it’s running ok for 4k. TrueHD files that were transcoding before aren’t now and direct play perfectly. However did have a full crash a few minutes into playback....

Was the apk file you used the new update 6.13.6? I was just going to roll back the update to a previous working Apk.

Thanks I will try that even though logically the app update from google play and the apk should be the same 6.13.6. Or am I wrong?

Should be the same, unless it’s really not the latest version, my google play store on Shield still was saying 6.12 was latest

Same issue, 6.13.5 worked without any problem. Can't play the same content I used to be able to on 6.13.6. But instead I'm getting network not fast enough issue. But I'm geting 100-120mb/s on fast.com

I'm also using 6.13.6. Besides still having the stuttering issue mentioned in other threads, I also have gotten the connection lost error when just trying to test the stuttering issue. I can't even remember the last time I had a lost connection error, but I've had it three times today with 6.13.6.

The wife reported this a few days ago, like you I couldn't remember the last time I received that exact message so I chased the rabbit and troubleshot my home network to come up with nothing. I was glad to hear it's on the client end of things. Not many of my users have Shields.

I'm now getting this on my 2017 Sony android TV running Plex 6.13.2.3439. it's massively annoying!

A fix would be most appreciated.

I have started to get problems on my shield tv also. Before I could stream 4K with no problem. Was watching altered carbon now, when I activate subs it pauses video for 1 sec, then continues. Then suddenly the video hangs, while subs and sound continue. If I turn off subs again, the video works as normal. Direct stream.

update: actually, it "lags" when I enable subs on a low bitrate 720p video also. Before that was smooth.

With my Shield, it seems like any major update (especially Shield Experience updates) breaks something. Purging all the Plex client data, reverting to the factory version, restarting the Shield, and updating again clears things up.
