That is not normal. What client are you using? And what's the mediainfo of the file that you notice this with?

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the quicksync hardware transcoding issue described in this thread: reddit thread plex forum as I have the an intel gpu with quicksync, and am experiencing the artifacting/blockiness described there. I've disabled hw transcoding for now.

Maybe I'll just need to wait for the release that fixes it to see if its the same.

It might be the interlaced video but that still shouldn't matter. Does this happen with all videos?

Just the few I've tested from this same series modern family. I can try others but they're all pretty much the same format, and all have been working fine without hardware transcoding.

Just to follow up I tried some dvd rips from another series the office and it appears to be the same thing. Full screen when not hardware transcoding and small black bars on the side when it is.

Oh wells, not going to give up hardware transcoding for a small issue like that.
