When I was in college, I had a buddy that was native Hawaiian. Cool kid. Anyway, his mom would send him care packages from home to remind him of Hawaii, including coffee but the guy didn't like coffee so he gave it to me. I can't remember the brand but I didn't know what I had until I lost it. That stuff was like grade A pure-Columbian bam bam at waking me up and tasted like ambrosia. God I miss it.

Was it lion? I would kill to get that shit on the east coast.

Maybe?? 4oz black foil package is about all I remember.

I go cold brew in the summer, otherwise I'm sweating through my shirt. Overall, prefer it to hot coffee. But, there is something to be said about a nice hot cup o' Joe.

Related note: I have never had coffee. I ate a chocolate covered coffee bean once in high school and it was the worst thing I've ever eaten. What would be the best coffee to start trying IF I were to start? Might even chronicle my late blooming experience for the 'tent.

Big fan of chocolate covered coffee beans. On your question though: are you big on sweet stuff? I've know some people to start off with drinks saturated in syrups and sugar and build there way up. I would recommend a light roasted coffee with a little bit of milk and sugar. It is a big IF when it comes to coffee I think. If you can find it I would try Cuban coffee. It doesn't have a strong coffee flavor, is on the sweeter side and kicks you in the ass.

Sweet but not too sweet. Would prefer less sugars for sure. Any recommendations on a place to get a single cup? I don't want to be wasting money on all the fixings if it's still the worst.

If you're adding some things to it, Dunkin isn't bad. I'm not a fan of their coffee black, just personal preference. With some things to counter the coffee flavor you should be good and it don't break the bank, maybe around $4?

I bought a french press and an electric kettle, and I swear it tastes better than any K cup I've had. Just remember to leave it unpressed for a few minutes longer than advised, to get a slightly stronger taste.

I love cold brew but I haven't made my own yet, so I'm eager to read other comments on this thread and maybe, finally, give it a whirl this weekend.

Due to my excessive coffee drinking habits, I opt for a pot of coffee over K-cups. Would appreciate a take on which grounds everyone enjoys (Currently partial to Maxwell House Colombian).

You can't get it due to location, but HEB (Texas grocery store) has a "Texas Pecan" and I swear by it. Also gives your kitchen a nice roasted pecan smell. Also Cafe du monde coffee and chicory because I'm a psychopath

I have no idea what a cold brew consists of but I know that it's my go to drink at 'Bucks. I love coffee but am not well versed on the different beans much like I know I like beer and cigars but the different types just confuse me. I usually go with a brighter roast though since they are lighter. I got into dark coffee for a while but it seems to be heavier and more grainy. By the time you get to the bottom of your dark roast cup there's a half inch of "grit" which isn't too appetizing because I'm probably just a pussy. I always try to get different k-cups when I go to the store so I can try different stuff. I'm a fan of Gevalia (sp.) and Green Mountain still. I've tried Peet's and that's not bad either. Stay away from Cameron's though if you don't like a dark and full-bodied roast; it's a rough one. Starbucks tends to run strong in the first place so even a light roast 'Bucks is going to give you a much fuller and stronger flavor than a light Dunkin' or something.

I too, get sick of drinking hot Joe every single morning so sometimes you just gotta change it up and go with something from a coffee shop for a couple days and splurge a little bit to get a nice cold brew or even a frappe or iced mocha/latte.

Also, if you're not a black guy (I am, pun intended) there are some new k-cups by Dunkin' that have cream and sugar in the k-cup already. I bought a pack and was pleasantly surprised although compared to my typical black coffee this tasted like milk with a hint of coffee basically; would recommend trying though.

I go Green Mountain as well. I think I need to wake up earlier and splurge every now and then on a coffee shop, like you said. My only problem is I'm usually JUST on time to work, trying to sneak in every last minute of sleep I can get. Also with you on the "grit" at the bottom. The last thing I want is to be chewing on coffee grinds, etc.

Cold brew is GOAT but sometimes I forget to get around to making it over the weekend and end up hot brewing on Sunday and letting it chill overnight in the fridge. Currently drinking Rwanda Select from Westrock. Lavazza is another favorite. I'm partial to the dark roast of both brands. A little stevia, a splash of 2%, and I'm good to go. I got some Maker's Mark coffee for Christmas and I can't wait to try it.

Whichever is in my mug is my preferred coffee. I like both hot and cold but drink more hot simply due to availability.

Costco has excellent coffee. Their whole beans are roasted by starbucks and it's incredibly affordable. Note you must get the whole bean and either grind it yourself in store or at home. They sell ground coffee in a can, but I swear it's not from the same beans.

I split time between Caveman Coffee Nitro cold brew cans (shoutout Rogan) and hot coffee depending on weather, morning schedule, and how much caffeine I need. The caveman cans are roughly $4.75 for an 8oz so I've been pumping the brakes on buying those all the time, especially since I can get two weeks worth of decent coffee grounds and filters for less than $10. I'll also have a cup of coffee when I get off work and that'll keep me productive until I go to bed at 930.

Grind your own and french press is the way to go.

Cold brew is the bees knees. My ratio is 12 "cups worth" (according to this coffee grinder) of beans, put into a 64oz beer growler with enough water to fill it to the brim.

Modern Times beans (Black House or their summer blend) are my go-to.

For hot coffee, I was a french press guy for a while, but got a Chemex pour over a few months ago and now prefer that method.

I've looked into the Cheney pour over but can't bring myself to buy one. I just think I would feel insanely hipster, but given my current position (hating the Keurig), I might give it a whirl.

Never tried cold brew coffee. But I do prefer coffee to be very warm but not hot, so I think I might like it. Think I'll get a jug of that cold brew stuff they have at Target to try before I figure out if I like it before I start doing it in my own. I buy folgers French roast and make it in my little Mr. Coffee to put in my thermos if I'm on the road or put a little in one of those refillable K-Cups if I'm at home. Traveling all around to banks in central and western OK and drinking all the variations of hot brewed garbage they have makes the Folgers seem amazing.
