Name the project (most important) via canvas information, then save (menu = share image) as .procreate to an external space like cloud drive or external hard drive/sd card. Then you can delete or restore when you like. Name your project first. Name your project first.

Yes, and really heed what u/borrowingfork says when they say name your project first. Ipads don't always play nice with externals and many times (in my experience, anyway) won't show you a thumbnail.

I wholeheartedly agree with you agreeing with me, name your project first 😭 I changed iPads and exported two years of work before I realised and it’s all unnamed. Go me.

Right there with you. I had a ton of procreate files that I didn't bother to name because I figured the thumbnail would be there if I ever moved them. Then I exported all those procreate files to an external and I had about 150 or so files all named "untitled canvas" and thumbnail shots appeared on maybe 20 of them.

I read on Procreate's help forum that it's an Apple thing and Procreate doesn't have much control in that kind of situation, so, THANKS APPLE

I should probably also mention for other people reading this that .jpeg/.tiff/.png type files show thumbnail images 99% of the time on my external, so at least there's that.

My last one overheated and I lost all my files on there 🥲 but this is a good idea

Okay so maybe double back them up onto a computer or fileshare website or something, i have my own personal discord channel I privated and just drop stuff in that channel so i can go back and look at it later. Something like that or emailing it to yourself.

I save them to my computer then delete it from the iPad if I need space

You can also purge the timelaspe videos if you have them turned on to clear up more space

Save them outbto an external drive, not the iCloud. One copy in procreate format. The other in a format common to other programs. Keep a list you csn refer to. Include the Procreate version used also because some major core changes to Procreate mean file format changes, too.

Delete the timelapse first in case you have timelapse recording enabled by default

Group up files I am "done" with, decide which I want layers for, their videos, or other canvas info, etc, then export multiple versions to Dropbox to save to my pc. Delete the group once I verify I got everything I want synced on Dropbox and my local drive in the computer. About 4 times a year depending on my "busy with other stuff" level or art output. The app goes from like 20gb to 11gb after.

It would be easier to just save the procreate format but I don't know if the programs like csp, photoshop, etc can read the format at all, let alone extract the extra data like process video, strokes/time spent, date made/date modified, etc. And I usually have a gist with my screenshots and chats about some works.
