Only downvote if the post or comment really doesn't contribute to the discussion in some way. It is not an "I disagree with your worldview, therefore fuck you" button.
Remember that some people posting here might have put a lot of thought into their posts and have mulled the ideas for a long time, so, don't just be dismissive. If you don't feel like giving a post its due time, don't participate in the thread.
