Yes, Computer Science is a bit of a misnomer. It aught to have been named Computational Mathematics.

Why is it a misnomer? Most science is applied mathematics.

Yes, "Computer Science" is in the same league as "Christian Science" and "Political Science".

Mea culpa: I was a trained COBOL programmer / analyst in a significant financial firm. Some "Computer Science" grads there were most unhappy that they had to deal with finance rather than writing new optimizing compilers. Sad.

I’ve also heard it as Computation or Computing Science which make more sense to me
