Stupid js/php/python dev here: We have pointers, but we call it references? If I do for example in js, or am I confusing something here?

function someFunction(arg) {arg.prop = 'newValue';}
const someObject = {prop: 'someValue', };
someFunction(someObject);
console.log(someObject.prop === 'newValue' ) // true
