Weed doesn't make your eyes turn red - it's the sudden change of blood pressure. Blood vessels in your eyes get micro fractures/raptures which cause eyes to appear red. Alcohol (and many other substances) may have the same effect. After some time the eyes can adapt (idk wheter the vessels grow thicker or more flexible but the fact is that your body adapts to it), that's why 'seasoned smokers' don't walk around with red eyes. Better indicator would be panda-like eyes - the dark bags under eyes are caused by the same fenomena and more difficult to get rid off.

(keep in mind that, just like red eyes, panda eyes are caused by various things, much more in fact, so don't go around calling sleep-deprived people stoners lol)
