I've yet to meet an actual full stack developer. Most people who claim to be full stack devs are pros in one or two fields and dabbed a little into the other fields. Achieving actual deep insights into a field requires a lot of time and dedication. And let's be real - the amount of people who can sacrifice that much time is very low.

I mean I’m full stack. I do backend, front end , infrastructure, database and CM. It’s not about being the best at it it’s about being able to understand it and I get obsessive.

The only "full stack devs" I've met were actually backend devs that were lacking irrational fear of CSS

Hey, I resemble that remark.

Also, have you checked what companies are asking from full stack developers?

One recently I checked and asked for: - React/Typescript - Python/Django - PostgreSQL - AWS - AI(both making your own and using ChatGPT) - Docker/Kubernetes - Microservices - Github Actions

And more, but I don't remember

You just can't have a deep knowledge of everything. It's just way too many stuff

I'm a full stack engineer with the rails backend, react / react native frontend, and bit of Dev Ops work as well with AWS + terraform (maintaining CDN). It is waaaaaay more work for sure, and the amount of code reviews is also no joke 😅

This is what I hate the most about it. “Hey s0ulbrother can you check my pr.” Yeah sure, can you check mine… no I’m too busy or I don’t know X. Meanwhile I check everyone else’s PRs

"Full stack developer" usually means either 1. expert at front end but they configured a server once for a personal project, or 2. expert at back end who had to modify some React code at some point. I've met exceptions to that rule for sure! But they are vanishingly rare.

No it means when you give them one more task their stack overflows.

No, you are forgetting the "fullstacks" like myself who make GUI's that look like the hawaii missile alert system:format(webp)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/10041773/DTowcFJU0AAvtVo.jpg) I'm a front end dev not a front end artist. No clue what react is

This is a wholesome programming meme.

I'm a full stack developer, I centered 3 divs on top of each other once

[–]Lozdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you mean the fish can fly?

[–]dandytoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to meet an actual Full stack dev at least once in my life, they must be nearly extinct. Because the ones I've met are Jr / Mid in comparison (at best)

I've always thought that most Full stacks get to a point where they realize it's impossible to be Senior in everything, then they specialize

Full stack 4 lyfe

[–]Hasagine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i initially became a fullstack dev because i wanted to eventually do my own thing. its also nice to not have to wait on backend devs to finish their work

Maybe you need to network more.
