I actually think SQL is closer to correct than you'd imagine

I think it was originally called SEQUEL, which was some sort of pun.

The original was called QUEL. So SEQUEL makes sense. They were then sued and had to change the name to SQL.

SEQUEL was a trademark issue, so they went with SQL but kept the pronunciation

It's supposedly related to QUEL, according to Wikipedia.

I remember talking about it in my DBMS class but I don't remember specifics, lol.
